Yamaha pilot Ri tchie Mo rris took the h oleshot in th e Mini Novice Main fo llowed by Tim T eows (Ya m ). T eows sat in second h alfway through lap three , th en slipped by Morris comin g out of the r ight -hander. T eows stretched his lead leaving Morris second and Steven Hill (Su z) th ird. Mike McCoy (H on). edged his way to th e .125cc Novi ce laurels, two bike lengths ahead of Tony Oxford (H -D). McCoy led all th e race but the real action was on th e las t la p in a battle for th ird , as Mack Bail y (Ya m) snatched the position from Ken McCoy (H on) in th e first tu m only to tangle up McCoy one tum later in th e right-hander. Ri chard Podergo is (Yam) saw opportunity knock, took the third slot, and carried it ac ross th e fin ish line. Mark Sumner (Su z) rode an excellent 250cc Junior Main. coming from third to first. Sumner follow ed Ricky Sullivan (Yam) and -Ma r k Chuwels (Bul)thefirstlap.Onlaptwo Sumner rode th e outside line of the sweeper to second and then took the lead and the win on the final la p, going by Sullivan over the jump. Rick Reeders' hard riding late in the race earned him second when he beat Sullivan out of the right-hander. Bob Garrison (Yam ) led all of the 250cc Expert Main until the final lap when Scott Podergois (Bul) took the lead in the first tum . As fa r as th e rest of the class went . th e com pe tition was between Keith Sim s (Suz) an d John Whelchel (Suz). It 's hard to believe Whelc hel is only fourteen - he has the spe ed a nd en dura nce of a mu ch olde r and more experien ced rider, but of co u rse he rode minis for quite a few yea rs.
