_._._._._._._._._.The Mini Combination ra ce was ho t a nd heavy. T he rid ers were staged around the trac k for the sta rt of each mota according to class . Bu t the Experts still ca me out on top even though th ey were started way in the very ba ck , Gene Brow n (Yam) and Ken Mcintire (Ha n). both Exp er ts. went at it tooth and nail. Brown looked as if he would take th e mota win bu t Mcintire made one fina l, desperate attempt and he pulled off a first . Chris Gables was the number three fin isher and firs t Novice. T he Amateur and Experts were scored together and the Novices were scored by themselves , so th e race for the trophies was qui te an ordeal. In the second mota , Ben Meyer wheeled his 80 Yamaha into the lead and hung on to it with all his might. Brown and Mcintire pushed each - - other, and both of them pushed Meyer, but ' he pulled off the . win . Brown was second with Mcintire right on his rear wheel for third. Gables was the number on e Novice again . In th e final mota , Mcintire was' the most , determined and he read the starter just perfectly. Brown wouldn't give up easily and he really gave Mcintire a run for his money. Meyer didn't contend this race, bu t left the battle to th e other two. W ith one lap left to go . Brown pushed Mcintire with a ll he had , but it j ust wasn 't enough. • Mcintire was the victor, Gables was the winner of the Min i Novice trophy. On th e 14th laps, Yodogawa twisted his kn ee and Maeda got past for th e win . In th e second moto, Yodo gaw a led all th e way to win by th e tie-breaker system . During that second mota , he also set a new lap record. Maed a finis hed second . The first division of 125 Juniors looked like it was going to Tom Miller (Yam). Bu t he b roke his pipe on the th ird lap and J oe Rod riquez won via a two-mote sweep . The oth er 125 Junior contest went to Hal Ed wards (Suz) who over came a dead -last sta rt in th e second mota to win it as he had th e first mota. Mark Gal e (Ca r) won th e first 250 Junior mota , b eat ing Wa yn e Tarkington (CZ) and Ga ry Goforth (DMG) .
