Style Rogers wins last turn at Iowa Park ---"-Zipp'-- _ IOWA PARK , TX ,JAN. 2 Brothers Paul and Gary Wilson of Albuquerque won the 125 and 250 Expert classes, respectivel y, at the Las Cruces MC 's 213-433-3102 Quantity Wilson brothers dominate Las Cruces MX Jim Goins led every lap of the combined 125 , 250 , and Open class "Rocky Top Two Hour Cross Country'; race run on a first of 24 points races for 1977 . With their overall win s, the W ilson s took home large ch un ks of th e $1,000 purse posted at the sparsely attended , snowplagued race . . Morris Baker of Marfa, Texas took th e lea d off the lin e in th e first 125 Expert mota , but mi ssed a berm and lost the lead ·to Las Crucen Scott Logston on th e first lap . Baker re passed Logston but couldn't shake him . Logston . still on Bak er 's rear fender, finally crashed. Logston got up to still finish second in the mota , -ahead of Paul Wilson . 4 l-2 -mile course here at Iowa Park,' Texas. But four laps before th e end of the long race on a rocky course, Ernie Rogers (Suz) came up to challenge Goins' Yamaha in a thrilling neckand-n eck battl e. The two locked handlebars, crashed , got up , and went at it again right up to th e last tum . Rogers beat Goins out of the last tum , and that's what counted in th e Victory Circle. _ The long course started up a fire trail, jogged back through craggy hills and down into a dry creek, ducked under a gas pipeline, ran through mesquite flats , and zigg.zagged through the start/finish check. Flat tires on mesquite thorns were the order of the day, and rocks were everywhere. Baker and Logston both had mechanical troubles , knocking them down in the standings. Paul Wil son finished the mota second , giving him the overall win. Mitch Moorehead of EI Paso was third in the mota . We ir rode his fast Kawasaki into the lead in both ' motos, but finished each m ota second. Randy Stahmann of Las Cruces won th e first mota, with Gary Wilson third after a good dice with Logston . Wilson won the second mota and the overall, with Weir second and Logston third in the second mota. EI Paso 's Pete Tanner easi ly won both Open Expert motes after Ryan Armitage of Las Cruces , who was second in th e first mota , broke in th e second mota . Tom Kitchell of Albuquerque was second overall, with Roger Pattison of Clovi s, NM , th ird overa ll. • Ra nd y Cleek rolled out his 250c Staracer Yamaha for a little pre·Houston National practice and won the 250 Expert class at Johnson -Arena here in Oklahoma. Cleek, who finished fifth in the Ca mel Pro Series in 1976 , and who was the 1976 U .S. Road Ra cin g Champion, won both his heat and semi, followed closel y by Ronnie Jones . In the Main , Cleek was chased by Jones , who also rides a Staracer Yamaha , and Rory Simmons, Cleek's brother-in -law and teammate , and a top-rated Junior . Cleek got the holeshot follow ed closel y by Jones and Simmons. Cleek took off, Simmons passed Jones , and Gordon Dusenberry finished fourth on an Ossa. The Open Expert class was almost a replay of the 250cc race. Cleek and Simmons were first and second, both on Staracer TT500 Yamahas. Third and fourth were Rick Milliser and Shane Dixon (Yam). In the 125 Expert class , Tulsan Dave Bradlev and his Misi -monoshock Honda won , beating David Jones (Suz). Third and fourth were Scott Adams (H a n) and Ken Britton. •
