Keith Jernigan (Suz) made it two str aigh t this week in 250 Intermediate, as first heat winner Kevin Hawk (Yam) could not return for t he final with broken motor mounts and cases. Jernigan's 4 -1 tie d wi th Marvin Saunders' 3-2 finishes, but a better second rnoto broke th e tie in Keith's favor , and was only on e po int better than David DiCorte, third OA at 2-4 . . In a spirited O ver -Sf) race , Ron Tomlinson (Pen ) mo ved from third to first on the last lap of moto one, and led the final round to win over Dud Gage (Suz) and John Talbot (Bul). Britisher Talbot also took third in the 250 Novice class , a contest in which the two leaders of the first mo to ,' La rry Colvin and Kirk Holcomb , ran aground together on th e last lap of round on e. The m ysterious overall winner rod e Bultaco #02 , but his name could not be found . The crowded 250 Expert class was holeshot by Dicky Turnbo (H us), but not riding for a month began to tell , not to mention pressure from Mel Newman, Rick ey Kidd , Roger Brown , , Bobby Pickard , and Trey Jorski. Halfway through , Newman took over and Pickard's bik e quit sparking. The first four were still pretty tight at the fin ish ; Newman (Su z), Turnbo, Kidd (Pen), and Brown (C· A) . It wa s Newman and Turnbo again leading the final , but Dicky ran out of steam, and Mel drove on in for a I -I payoff, followed by Kidd (3-2), Brown (4-3) , andJorski (H us, 5-4). Bob Pickard's ign ition bugs again haunted him in the Open Expert, and as he mo ved in on leaders Jorski and Brown, the plug wire came loose . The DNF bug th en bit Jorski's Pen ton , Brown ( Pe n) , Darrell Hollingshead (Hus) , Ch ris Dublin (Mai), and Dickey Nowell (Pen) finish ed in that order. Trey Jorski bounced back to win the last mota; b ut a tie for firs t overall was d ecid ed in the race for second, won by Hollingshead wit h Brown on his back wheel. • Results in Results Section . The Enduro , which is sponsored by the Fort Hood Dirt Riders Club (FHDRC) a nd sa nc tione d by the T exa s State Championship Enduro Circuit (T SCEC) , is the largest event ever held on any m ilitary reservation . It is one of a series of 13 annual events held in T exas that make up the Endu ro Circuit. .
