The chan did little to tell you how we arrived at the point tallies. Bob Crossman and Den ny Berg chose a number of factors they felt w~re relevant to race tire performance, and then rated each tire (or tire pair) on a scale of 1 to 10. The "Speed Factors" were the lap times (charted here). Since they were taken two ways (average la p time, fastest la p time) by two riders , th a t meant that a tire pair could earn as much as 40 points on lap times . T read wear was also scored fou r ways (front center , front ed ge, rea r cent er, rear edge); so a 40· point max was also possible on the basis of tr ead wea r under raci ng conditions. Finally, since real people have to sp end re al money on r aci ng equipment, we ra n ked the tires according to price - front tires an d rea r tires ranked separately - so 20 po ints could be ea rn ed u nder " Price Factors. " Taking the values together, we've attempted to answer all at once t he question: "How much does it cost, how long will it last , how quick does it go?"
