are for the birdsl I sure do care how they do it in California. Yeah, I'm from the East , but still, they shouldn't put you guys down . I'm proud that the new No. One lives only about 60 miles away. But who is No. Two? Ken Roberts, and he's a Californian. Just to show the East how I feel , you don 't by any chance have a T-shirt that says "We don't care how the hell they do it in the East," do you? If so, how may I get one? T AMMI RICHMOND Battle Creek, Mich. No, we don 't have a WDCHTHTDIITE Tishirt, but say hello to the Rice Crispies boys just the same . Snap, Crackle, Crash . . . Ed. Thanks .. . A break for women We subscribe to your paper and are avid motorcycle fans and competitors. Saturday's race at the CRC Adelanto Grand Prix was especially exciting in the Women's Division . The two lead girls passed each other on many occasions, one riding a 250 and the other a 500. At the finish , the second rider was rid ing on the back tire of the first girl. The winning girl rider was 11th overall and the number two girl rider was 12th overall. We were especially disappointed that the Women's Division was not even mentioned in your article. (T he winner was my 16 year old daughter). She has won two races at Corona and again was the only division not mentioned. How about a break? She would like sponsorship, but since women riders do not even get mentioned , the sponsors are not too delighted to "waste their time and money ." No less than 30 to 40 people came up to her after the race remarking on the exciting race between the two women. Someone goofed. Please consider the women riders in your articles. They spend just as much time and money as well as effort in trying to win. ARDYN RIDDEL Frustrated Mother Upland, Calif. What's the big deal about . girls? Several times there have been letters in Voices about women motocrossers. What seems to be the big deal about a girl who rides faster than a gu y? Taking body structure into account, there should be no difference in riding ability except the experience behind either rider. 6 Without mentioning the stereotyped names of the faster female riders of Southern California , can you give us Texans an idea about how fast they are? Would they destroy a local Expert class around here? ANDREW COOKSEY Dallas, Texas Taking Mosier Valley bs an example, we'd say that most of the girl hotshoes would not be instant Expert winners. But you can't really take the women as a class. We 've seen some girls who win Intermediate races, some who get lapped in Beginner races - just like people. Sex is really something to be considered after races are through. After all, when 's the last time you saw Powder Puff d ivision at a Daytona' . . . Ed. M itch Mayes Your write up on Mitch Mayes' accident left a good deal to be desired. A rider of Mitch's caliber deserves a little more space than what was given him. I'm sure Mitch would like to hear from his friends . REBECCA ROWDEN Palmdale, Calif. The prognosis f or M ayes is n ot optimistic. He has no feeling below his rib cage, and may have suffered permanent spinal cord damage. After visiting Mayes in t he hospital, Malcolm Smith said "I'm beginning to feel bad about racing motorcycles. First Dick Miller, and now this ." Interested people can send cards and leiters to Mitch Mayes, 38"8 Malby St. , Palmdale, CA 93"0 . . . Ed . THE WAGNER FAMILY Temple City, Calif. BUZZARDS MC Duarte, Calif. A lot of littl e " Quacks" By now a lot of riders know who the Phantom Duck of the Desert is. So do we - he's our Dad ; and one hell of a guy. But, there are a lot of other good people out there. And they showed their concern when they gave up a point run, and some other good events on the same day, to ride and be pitcrews for this protest trail ride. This trail ride was a spontaneous protest against the cancellation of San Gabriel Valley M. C. 's Annual Barstow to Vegas event. It will hopefully make the BLM a n d ou r C a lif. State Legislature aware that they can't take everything away from the ORV enthusiast and offer us nothing in return. We hear all this talk about fighting for what we want. What good is it just sitting there talking about it? Find out what you want , and then decide what you're going to do about it! How many protest letters have you written? How . many phone calls have you made? Think about it. Open your eyes to the truth! Read your Cycle News, and find out why our public lands are being taken from us. Take action! Many of us did on Nov. 27. Our deepest thanks to everyone who showed up to express their feelings . You're No. One in our books. Riding SGVMC's B to V in 1977 is our goal. If they aren't there, WE WILL BE! WILL YOU? DAUGHTERS & GRANDDAUGHTERS OF THE DUCK Fontana, Calif. New coalition At last , a publication .with the courage of its convictions and a willingness to speak out in its readers' best interest. I'm referring to Papa Wealey's all- but endorsement of Libertarian candidate Roger MacBride who , by the way, polled more than 52.000 votes in Cal ifornia. The Libertarians are alive. well and given the anti-freedom viewpoints of Mr. Carter and the majority in Congr ess - should get infinitely better in the coming months. Looki ng forward to having m o torcyclists . among the "new coalition." OWEN KEARNS,JR. Editor, Bakersfield Californian MT125R Honda I guess we'll all just have to wait until next season to find out if the MT125R Honda road racer can possibly live up to its hype. Anyone who actually watched the lightweight race at Willow Springs on November 21 knows that the Honda just plain got hot and tired after chasing a couple of slow, old TA125 Yamahas around for several laps . "Led little bike GP until seizing?" Sorry guys , but save the caption. Maybe you'll be able to use it again next vearl WILLIAM BRINKERHOFF Oakland , Calif. R ats. We arrived at the race late (had to hit a Mike Bast Speedway School in Corona en route) , missed the 12' GP race, and asked a friend wha't happened. That's the last time we'll take someone else's word . In all f airness, that M TI2,R , with a genuine RSC MTI2'R engine in it, has won at Willow before. This time, with a new, stock MX engine stuffed in the frame the night before the race, it didn't win . . . Ed.
