No w look for a good dirt road on th e left side. Park your truck her e. gas up . and go north under th e power lin e to the ne xt go od roa d . This will be a n X inte rsec tion and on the no rt hwes t corner there is a sign read ing " N ot a through street. " T urn right a nd follow th is road eas t for 4 .7 miles. T his will be Br id geport Ca nyon. If you come to a large sign advertising Hawt horne , Nev ada ga mbling you have gone one q u a rt er mi le too far. Start u p the canyon , m ainl y on a two track road but pretty sm ooth . You climb slightly th en drop a nd aft er 6.4 m iles yu come to t he No rt h Roa d or Bridgep ort Roa d . depe nd ing on which map you use or person you ta lk to . T ake a right and head eas t again ,' mostly up hill for 9 .1 mil es and finally Bodie comes into view. Take your own eats as th ey sell no food or drink unless you drink only water and can d igest pi cture postcards. Ba ck on the bik es and now we hea d for Aurora . some 18 mil es distant. It's practically all do wn hill for the next 13.1 miles, just keep follow ing Bodie ' Creek. A few miles out of town you will pass th e ruins of th e famous Syndicate Mill and an old rock dam on the right side. T hen you pass th e re m n ants of the T oll House. It's so close to the road ' you think you are going to ride right through it. At about six miles you cross • into Nev ada. T he re is no si~, but ou t , here who really cares. . Three m or e mil es, you will come to a bu ild in g on the right side under the power line. This is Del Monte . There is a road go ing east , but do not take it as it dead ends up th e ca nyon due to a landslid e , washout . and a very leaky spring. Some maps still show it go ing up to Aurora . T ain't so. We tri ed it fr om th e Auror a end and wer e on ly a ble to ge t do wn 1.3 mi les. Continui ng no rt h , soo n you come to a well m arked junct ion with a sign showing th e way . Turn righ t a n d proceed up the ca nyon . At about fou r mil es a fork appears, go right again ; up th e hill th en dow n jus t a h air . This is Auro ra . It is am azing 't he p laces peop le will build just to try and ge t ric h . At thi s poi nt you have id den 38.3 miles. W e to ok three hours and 20 minutes, about 12 m iles per hour. Not very fas t but we had stopped for picture taking .
