Behind him were Balentine (400 KT M). Morgan Mal occo (400 Yam) and Tom Kelly (250 KTM). Broo ks opened up 'a bou t a '15·secOlid lead over Balen tine . by the end of the first 12-mile loo p . Balentine's ti re came up flat in t he canyons. The second loop was run four times . making the race 48 miles long. Finishing his fourth loop and about to get the checkered flag , Brooks pulled in for gas a bout 30 feet from the , finish . Tom had been expecing a white flag, and thought it a good idea to refuel since he hadn't seen one, ORA does not use one, bu t the gas ins ured that he m a de it the remainder of the ' wa y. The stop cut down the lead he had over Kelly, who top ped the 250 class. Malocco, who has been finishing regularl y for a change , took third . Mike Johnston (400 KT M) has gotten adjusted to his new bike and had an excellent ride, running fourth. Lee Wilson III (KTM) and Brad Henson (Yam) had a good battle going fo r first . small-bore. with Wilson moving fr om behind to catch Henson . the p air finishing fifth and sixth. Gordon Schmid (400 Yam) won the Sen io r class at ninth overall. Rare Desert Scrambles J ohn Klohs (175 Yam) led the 0-200 Begi n ner race from beginning to end.
