"Hopetown" moved to Dunes Th e troubl ed Din Dig!?ers Hopetown Grand Prix ran Into more trouble Dec ember 2 (just over a week before the start of the already postponed event) , when th e Ventura Count y Board o f Supervisor s denied them a cond itiona l u se perm it t o hold the rac e at Hopetown. Although Bob Hope and his people "tried like Hell" to help the Diggers , even spending 5800 for an Environmen tal Impact R eport. th e Board voted 5-0 to den y th e permit. They cited opposition from two landowners. It was also reported by Digger Skip Kreps that an attorney for t he Ba ym ar e promoter had complained because the Diggers wer e getting a pe rmit whi le his client had been denied one . The Board a lso stated a t the hearing that the Diggers " had created an attractive nuisa nce ."
