Kenosha, Wisconsin's Keith Ulicki and Chuck Palmgren of Santa Ana, California. Coming out of tum two Palmgren picked off Ulicki and started working on Collins. Collins made only one slip out of the blue groove and Palmgren took the lead on lap four. By lap five Collins is in fourth, followed by Droste, Amarillo's Bill Brown, Darrel Hurst, and Bubba Rush, all involved in their own little pack of position swapping. It was still anybody 's ra ce with the first four positions freight training the groove, Droste in fifth by himself, and Bill Bro wn leading another close knit pack ; and at the finish it was Palm gren, U1icki, J ohnso n , Collin s, Droste, Brown, and Rush. • Droste had it wired at the Oklahoma Fair By Frank H. OKLAHOMA CITY , OKLA., OCT. 2 As half m iles are availab le in Ok lahoma, it seems strange thai a rider from the North has to co me down once a year and show the Southern boys how to do it, but that's just wh at Steve Droste did today, and another former winner Mike Collins of Albuquerque never let him re st a sin gle minute of t he final, Although Droste won this once before, it seemed like all o dd s were against hiln as his va n bro ke on the way and he barely made the scen e. The Novi ce Main was a real thriller from start to Iin ish with Eddie Lawson of Ontario, California (Bul) fighting for a real thin lead on the first lap with virtually everyone scuffling for the sa me position as Daytona Novice winner Mike Green of Ft . Worth stuffed his Bul into the fen ce between t urns three and four. Mike Rhoads of Alma, Michigan (Bul) held a short lived lead on the third lap; all this time Gadsden, Alabama's pride , Lance J ones was sorting it o ut and b lasted off to lead fr om lap fo ur on to t he wire with Rho ad s taking sec on d, Bob by Decker of Battle Creek, Mich igan t h ird an d Lawson fo urth . T he J unior Main go t off with a bang as lo ud as Hu go 's ae rial bombs as Michigan's Garth Brow, and Te xans Odell Davis an d David Fish er all tangled in tum three and sca tt ere d Harley parts all over the co urse stopping t he race. All cam e out unhurt however, but Brow's Harley was demolished; with fast help from ab out 15 fellow riders, Fisher's unstrung r ear wheel was replaced, new brake installed and he and Davis both returned to the start line . On the restart, it was Randy Goss, quickest with Terry Bond (H. D) clo se on his heels and Mike Parr of Independen ce, Missouri (H-D) in third with Tulsa's Bret Brady fourth, and Randal Raker fifth. Raker got by Brady in the fourth lap to move in to fourth, while Goss with Bond on his tail widened the lead over Parr in third, then Raker worked on Parr and passed him to gain third but the finish had Gossand Bond a straightaway lea d over Parr in third and Brady in fourth . The Expert Main lined up' with great expectation as two former winners Mike Collins and Steve Droste were in the line up and they didn't disappoint anyone when -Collins im mediately took the lead in tu m on e with Droste's front wh eel rig ht on him ; the first two laps we re anybody 's race as th e pack held a tigh t format ion wi th So nny Burr es in third and Denver 's Del Armou r m oving up fast . Drost e finally got by Co llin s on th e third lap wit h an uncomfortab le lea d as Armour m ov ed by Burres into third. Armour w orked o n Collins and got by into second. By then the leaders - Droste, Armour, and Collins are way o u t ahead of t he pack through the white flag and that 's the way they fini shed as Rawls fell on the last lap. • The 123cc oilinjected engine has reed valve induction for more "grunt" at low revs. Other notables: primary kick starting, big 26mm Mikuni carb, and a wide ratio 5 speed box and Hodaka's unique Alumiferric cylinder that make this 125 90 like a 'Bat outta hell!
