Tony Wanket (F.MF Hon) led the first moto to the flag after Alan Smith (Hon) dropped out of theIead with a so ur motor. Myerscough p laced a distant second be hind Wanket. Mye rsc ough led the second moto fro m start to finish with Wan ket a close second. During th e Open Pro ac tion Bry ar H olcom b smoked the first moto aboard a new KTM. Meanwhile the battle for second place was the hi ghl ight of the race. After a tangle with Lee Scheefers " KTM rear tire, Coast Mota Cycle's Randy Blevins berzerked his CZ into the second place position, p assing Steve Russell (Mai) as the mota ended. Scheefers motored in for a close fourth. The pri zes today were st ric tly " sano ", ABC l\lX leathers for first , a Bell Motost ar Helmet went to second, third pl ace go t a helmet b ag and fourth a Bell J ack eL Th e loot went to the winners in each class . Not bad, eh? For th e 125 Intermediates, it was Team DG, Kevin Harlow and Mike Loper, sm o king the field. Dan Green ( FMF) got the holeshot b u t was unable to hold onto th e lead spot for too long because Kevin and his DG m achine are out to do me an things to the other riders today. Second place rider Mike Loper and Hondarnan Randy Skinner, along with Ross Thompson (Han) were able to pull way ou t in front of the co mpetition and dust thcm all. These four riders go t the good ies. 125 J un io r class had Suzukimounted Keith Doege grad the holeshot and just pour on the power. Keith just opened up his machine and jetted around the co urs e. Fo llowing Keith were Mike Bennett (MM) Glenn Yo ung (Han) and Robert Broguiere (DG) . It loo ked for a while as if the riders were playin g follow the lead er until Broguiere managed to bump Young for th e th ird pla ce position an d Jim Cote (Suz) scrambled to get the fourth leavin g Young with fifth overall. Darn goo d when y ou stop to consider 74 Juniors started ou t today and only four co uld win the go odies. Steve Pigage wa s first off the 250 Intermediate line with a lot o f l(Uys who wanted to win righ t on his Yammy's knobbies, Brad Roysdon (Suz), Dean Jocic (Mai) and Rocky McKee (MCA) were his closest competition for a few laps, bu t Ken Morgan and his wide open Suzuki were busily wo rking towards the front of the line. As the laps checked off, Morgan just kept pushing un til in the last of the race he had passed everyone, even the leader. The winners in this 2 50 Intermediate race were Morgan, Pigage and Jocic. 250 Juniors were the last of the racers today. KTM rider Marc Halliburton led the riders down the start hill and never for a second gave up his total dominance of the race. Darren Hulbert was the man of the night in the Mini Amateur Ex pert class. Darren st arted out on the right foot an d went on to bring home the gold. J im Snow was held to third until, the fmal lap, when he realized it was now or ne ver, and dashed past David for second. David Hulbert and Ken McIntire, the lone Expert, were going at it tooth and nail in mota two. David ended up on to p, followed in brother Darren 's dust for second, Kent McIntire was third. Mota three, Darren left the hassle of jockeying for position to older brother David and Ken Mclntire, while he cruised along way out front. Ken had the disadvantage of start in g in b ack of the Amateurs and, after working up through the pack, he was held to third behind David Hulbert. The overall results were Darren Hulbert, David Hulbert and then Ken McIntire. Tim Thibodeaux rode to an easy win in th e 250 Novice race. As T im pulled into the lead, Dennis Voll (Bul) and LeRoy Do Zois (Kaw ) were clashing for posit ion, bu t Dennis was the strongest and secured second. The final 250 Novi ce rac e was a gut buster for Thibodeaux, DoZois and Voll. Thibodeaux finished firs t after a hea d to head b att le. Le Roy was determined to beat Dennis out of second and he did it too, just-in the nick of time. Tim took the trophy home. Dennis and his Bul took the sec o nd over Le Roy DoZois. Kinney Jones took the first heat of th e 125 Beginner race and Nick Litwin joined Jones in the other direct transfer to the long awaited main event. Six riders would continue on to the main from the semi and since three r id er s didn't show, th e pressure was off 'cau se all made the main. Scott Pond aboard a Honda led the pack bu t high pressure carne from the rear. David Hachee followed in Scott 's wake until Tom Headley took over where David left off. T om wanted that first place and he tried everything he knew to get around Scott Pond. Headly snatched the lead from Pond for a short lap, but Pond also vowed to take the win and he did it by the skin of his nose. A ll r iders went on to the main for the fight for the two tr ophies. The victor of heat one, Kinney Jones, made a repeat perfo rmance in the biggy race. Tom Headly gave him a rea l go. Four riders each wanted a p iece of the pie , but only one could have it. Tom got a fantastic start an d led fo r two lap s until J ones buzzed by t o ta ke control. Headly left the doo r open an d Kinney J on es and Nick Litwin moved past. Then Tom got t hin gs squared away and traded places with Nick. The race came to a close as Kinney J o nes and Tom Headl y picked up the first and second pla ce trophies. Kinney is a professional motocrosser, so he declined taking the trophy and Headly moved to the head of the class .
