NACONA, TEX., SEPT. 26 The Nacona Jaycees held a hillclimb that was relativelyunadvertised and had about twice the number of entries expected . One ; • . ~ I I · of the regu lar area cl imbers visited so me relatives in the area and they le t the beans ou t of t he bag. After a cancellation last week the climb went off successfully. The hill was about 250 feet high and after a back-hoe got through with it Sunday the top was nice and lo ose. There were only four classes _ an d trophies, but that did not dampen anyone's enthusiasm . Just to start things off right Robert Alford on a 125 Honda went right to the top just to prove it c ou ld be done. In an unusual tum of events m o re bikes topped the hill in th e 125 class than the 200. Duffy Douglas let Mike Polley ride a 125 Yamaha he had for sale and even though it was not gea red righ t and Mike had never been on the bike before he came ou t third. Sunny Holmes was the most successful rider with firsts in the 125 and · 200 classes and in the 350 class he was second. In the 200 class Bobby Herrell came in second on a 175 Harley-Davidson. This man and his bikes were the regular winners in three classes several years back. He had an accident and lost touch with cli mbing, bu t not the to uch for climbing. Du ffy D ouglas had some of the most spectacular rides and crashes. O n his last · try in the Open class on a 5 00 Yamaha ju st to get first place he crashed on the line. In order to do th is he had to not let off over the top.
