Mani, Montgomery and Anderson. pulled far ahead of the other riders to finish the first moto way ahead of anyone _else. In the second moto Scott Montgomery blasted off the line for a fantastic holeshot, Second was Tamietti and Dan Ellison (Mai). After a few laps Val grabbed the lead away from Scott an d Jim Martin (CZ) was in third place followed very closely by Steve Rh yan. Tamietti held the lead for one lap and Scott Montgomery opened up his machine to take over. Martin was now second with Rhyan in third and Tami, riding on a flat front tire in number four . Rhyan and Martin switched positions and -as the moto drew to a close it was Mon tgomery , Rhyan, Martin and Tamitti. Riders t -aking home the ca s h were Montgomery , Tamietti and Martin. 12 5 Pro riders first off the line were Jeff Tomlin (Hon), Tim Tolar (MM), and Vince Kreizinger (Hon ) and Butch Darling (Hon) . Elliott trouble at .$ 1,000 AMC By Danny Raymond ORANGE, CALIF. , OCT. 10 Suzuki R&D's Bob Elliott went home with alm ost o ne third of AMC's monthly $ 1,000 purse by taking top positions in both 250 an d Open Pro div isions. Durin g the Open Pro action Bob's nearest comp eti- tion, if an y. came from Mid-Valley's Marty Moates (KT M), who took second' overall after co ming from dead last in the second mota all the way through a pa ck of twenty Pro's to finish a strong second. J During 12 5 Pro act ion D & Gs David Taylor (Suz) took home a well deserved first overall after some heavy dicing with Yamaha's Bro c Glover. Bro c was hot on Dave 's rear fender during the second moto until he was slowed by a broken pipe and was forced to drop off his pa ce . The biggest and by far the m o st" ex citin g ra cin g of t he day was the 250 Pro race. Aft er the start of the fir st 250 mota Suzu ki mounted John Smith qu ickly p icked up the fir st position an d never let it go, even though Bob Elliott was con stantly closing the gap on John'
