It · was Lee who won, with Brad second and J eff third. Nelson didn 't like eating Howard's dust and he passed him on the last lap to take the win and the overall. Kelly Larive (KTM) grabbed third overall, Roger Jones (KTM) sh owed up to take the overall in the 250 Expert class, John Irnbriale (Hus) had some bike problems bu t managed a second overall. (a s well as a first in the Open Ex perts) and Tom Pulver (Mai) is making a more serious effort nowadays on his new mount and took a third overall in the 250 Pros. • Results in Results Section. ' The 125 Experts came off the gate into the first tum slippin' and slidin' as the track had just been watered. Scott Andrist (Han), Larry Owen (Han) and Roger J ones, on a borrowed Elsinore, were all figh ting for the lead. J ones took command halfway through the first lap while Dave Crawford (Han) came flying through the pack in to second, fo llowed closely by Car los Serano (Han). Crawford pulled up to J ones, on Iy to have his bike crap a u t. Se rano took advantage and moved by both Crawford and-Jones. The "Flying Chicano" won easily (half a track) foll owed by Jones, Crawford and Chappie Blose (Han) . At, the start of the second mota, Serano cam e au t in the lead , lo o k in g like he was going to hold it to the checkers. Somehow it didn't work out that way. Carlos did a graceful donut, and both Crawford and Blose went by before he could manage to re start. They finished in that order with John Wiltsey (Han) looking good in fourth. Crawford took the o verall with Serano second and Blose third. Dave Nelson (Suz) too k th e overa ll in th e 250 Amat eur class, but not with out a fight from Howard Dendy (Suz) . Dendy to ok th e firs t m ota, af te r co m ing from a bad start, with Nelso n secon d and Mike McCarty (Suz) third. In second mota ac tion, Nelson had ' t he lead, bu t Dendy came throu gh the pack CMC Motocross By Tom Blattler IRWINDALE, CAL., SEPT. 24 Rain was falling during practice, but that didn't stop plenty of anxious riders who wanted to get in their final warmup before the big CMC Night National MX Championship. The Pros were ready for some har d racing and the 250 class looked to be one of the toughest of the season with defending Night National Champion J eff Vidic leading the way. Vidic had all kinds of competition th is time a u t, Mike Bell, on his new D-G Suzuki, Mark "Mad Manu Lawrence. Val Tarnietti, and flat tracker turned motocrosser, "Lil" John Hateley (KTM). In the first 250 Pro mota Vidic took the lead early with Bell and Lawrence in hot pursuit, pressuring. Bell finally slipped underneath Vidic for the lead and Lawrence began to give Jeff problems. As Mark and ,Jeff were battling, Vidic slid au t and hIS chances all went away. Bell took the victory; with Lawrence second followed by Tamietti, Hateley and Aaron Bassett, Mota two was a little different. Vidic took the holeshot and never looked back. Bell settled for second with th ird again go ing to T amietti. Th e final round aga in saw Vid ic gra b the lead in th e first co m e r with Bell runn ing second. Mike kn ew he on ly needed to fin ish in the lap three to clinc h the ove ra ll, and he rode his Suzu ki ra t her easily to ano th er se cond. Vidic was nowhere to be found. He had smoked the field for the second consecu tive time, bu t had to settle behind Tamietti, who again placed third in the fin al race, in third overall. The 125 Pro class wa s a Gary Denton Benefit. Den ton 's teammate, David Tayl or , fmished second overall followed by Tim Lunde, John Atwood, and Eddie Clark. Tamietti, who is on his way to the 1976 CMC Pro Championship, picked up the victory in the 500 Pro division with two moto wins and a second. "Blg" Luke Messer, who took the final m o ta , placed second overall with third going to Kevin Young. . Resu lts in Results Se ction. La Plante takes ITA trials .By Paul Oswald IRVINE, CAL., SE PT . 19 Kawasaki's Gary La Plante stored the Expert class at the International Trials Association's last summer trial. La Plante had superior rides all day and co mmented favorably on the trials. Dennis Gilmore rode to a comfortable second, ahead of Greg Lersch; both men were Bultaco m oun te d. David Webster, riding a Yamaha 175, had some excellent rides and finished fo urth. Shannon Stewart rode her second trial ever, she had won her first one, and she won this one too. Katy Henry (Han) finished second after consistent rides. J erry Man ley (Yam) won the Senior class over Art Webster also on a Yamaha. In the Amateur Class Mark Webster (Yam) took the win w ith Oli Thordarsen (Yam) in second. After breaking his leg so me m a n ths back Bultaco 's Rick Spruell rode to a th ird despite havin g very little practice. Duane Feland, o n a brand new Bultaco, rode to a fourth with little e ffo rt. Mart y Stabil e (Ya m), th e pred icted winner 'of th e Nov ice class, was whi pped by little Larry Em ge on a Bul, Marty wa s second. Todd Spear, an u p and co rning rid er o n a Yamah a 1-75, fin ished . "'
