U Pickard, Kidd WFO at Mosier 0 By Dave Nielsen ARLINGTON , TEX. , SEPT. 5 Penton of Dallas teammates Ricky Kidd and Bobby Pickard highlighted another jam-packed motocross at Mosier Valley MX Park with a knock down, drag out duel in the 250 Expert class, driving their Austrian m ou nts and the crowd crazy. No less could be expected from these two charter members of Mosier's own Team Wasted. with Kidd recently making some: serious waves in recent National Support classes, and Pickard, although less travelled, being regarded as the man to beat in North Texas. Today 's battle ended with Pickard the winner over Kidd, and Monte Anderson made it a Penton sweep by overtaking Mit ch Milson (Hus) for third. Kidd was banking on the Open class , which he was ab o u t to win until a flat forced him to pit his 400, opening the door for Darrell Hollingshead (Hus) , the eventual winner at 2-1 over Milson (3-3) and Chris Dublin (Mai, 4-5) . 125 Expert racing was a wild affair, as first round leaders Louis Presley and Ruben Alonzo both stepped off their scooters in the waning laps. Mike Hullett (Suz) kept truckin ' - and . suddenly was the firs t finisher, trailed by Dicky Turnbo (Yam), A lonzo (Hon), . Presley (Suz) , Ivan Neeper (Hon), and Danny Doss (Hon). It was a down day for Mel Newman and his Suzukis, and Mel finished an uncharacteristic 9-6 . T he second moto saw both Turnbo and Neeper fall from the running, an d although Presley took the heat co nvin cingly, Hullett ( 1-2) stood overall first over Louis' 4- 1, Alonzo 's pair of threes, and Danny Doss' 6-4. . With Mosi er Valley 's split racing program, it's . said th at ·m ost of the Novice class ridersdorr't stay after their motos and " go to school n on the Experts an d Intermediates, who ra ce late r in th e afternoon, at a more heated pace. Novices seeking improvement could easily ta ke advantage of this period to talk to and study the moves and equipment of those in faster c.asses , but stream out the ga te in droves when their ra ce is over; They would find that most of the pros enjoy talking about racing and were once Novices, too. The course was in beautiful sh ape today, after a liberal Saturday rain had aided the normally good preparation, and the 315 riders welcomed mild temps in the 80's after enduring sweltering summer co n ditio n of recent months.
