Todd (R M Suz) cam e from way back in the pack to pass th e ea rly run ner-ups and finish second for the moto, Lesniewski turned up the slide on h is Husky and holeshot the field in mota two with Maico mounted Car l BIen tlinger in second. Blentlinger fmished poorly in round one and was gassing it good in this mota as he . needed a top 15 finish to get to the finals in Car lsbad next month. Scott Karl (Mai) gave Car l a ru n for his money but fad ed as the mota ended. Tim Walker foll owed his second place ride in m ota o ne with a th ird for second overall . fo llowed by SoC al rider J im Mar ti n on a CZ. Ken Sis ler (Mai) totally dom inated th e firs t round in the Op en class. O ff th e line i t was Sisler and Deln o Becker. Becker blew a sh if t and fe ll to mi d pack while Sisler pi lo te d th e Maico to a com mandi ng lead ove r San D iego 's Kenny Frost and Chuck Pettigrew (Mai ). T he ac tion ce ntered around t he two KTM riders J oe Duncan and Bec ke r as th e two t ried to nab fo urth. Becker, u n h ap py with the rear end of his KT M, (" I think it handles better with one shock than it does with two.") closed on Duncan bu t stalled the bike in a hairpin and Du ncan won the battle. Mota two for the Open class was the race of the day. Ken n y Frost was first off the line followed by Olympic Cycles . mou n te d Sisler and Carlsbad winner David Czerwinski. David briefly held onto second as he passed Sisl er but Ken quickly repassed him as Czerwinski dropped to fourth, while Ch uc Pe ttigrew moved up to third. Ken Sisler · then proceeded to glue himself to Kenny Frost's rear fender as the tw o gassed it for the lead, not more than a bike length apart. Everyone wa ited for Sisler to fade as he h ad been in bed all week with the flu but his stam in a remained. Lap after lap , Sisl er" au ld ge t a wheel ah ead down the back downhill but Frost wou ld shut til e door as they entered a comer. With five m in u tes left, Sisle r cats in a tigh t corner trying the inside on Fr ost. Frost gasses up a 20 second lead before Sis ler ge ts moving again . With two laps le ft Ke n ny looks like an easy winner after the crash. Ken · Sisler has no t given up; in t h e next two ' lap s he closes in on F rost again as Fros t slows a little too m uch . T he wh ite flag comes a u t an d Sisler is going to have to go for it if he wants the win . Ken glu es himself once more to Ken ny 's ba ckside. Down the far downhill Sisler moved up even to Frost but Frost on ce mo re shuts the door and time has run au L Ken n y Frost with his 2·1 sco re takes the overall foll owed by the smooth running Ch u ck Pettigrew ' (3·3) . Delno Becker, suspension and all, got by a tiring J oe Duncan for fo urth. Challenger racing featured two new fac es in Dennis Stewart and Anders on. with Stewart winning the series and ge tting a guest ride in th e Divisi on Two Consi. Randy Tompkins of Fresn o led the race until the last lap wh en he wen t down. The smooth riding Stewart went on for the win. Mickey Aqua led the 100s until Rick Delong took ove r for the win. Tom Worth was close behind in second. Frank Hastings (Han) won overa ll in minis, with Dennis Houser seco nd (Yam). The mini Expert race wa s w on by R ick Delong, who also won the Mini Money ra ce, barely beating au t Bob Myers, who led until mechanical problems slowed him down. Sunday.
