Second pla ce was won by J ack Mey er s (Wash ington) who by the way took a 1-1-1 for the team win on his Yam aha Saturday. The co m b ined Expert and Masters race had Masters Di ck Poulin (Ma i), Wash ington, and teammate Joltin' Joe McKenzie (Mai), along with Expert Harold Storm (Hus) also of Washington, doing it to the rest of the pack. Storm's \· \-9 was not good enough for the overall as Bill Naylor (Yam ) went to a 4-4-4 in the team races and a 8-2 -1 today brought home the ftrst place gold. In the second moto the World's First Old Timer World Champ crashed hard going into a tum WFO. The rear brake broke loose on his Maico, sending Ron Brown of Oregon straight up in the air and into the weeds. Once again luck was with us as Ron got back on and finished the race. His bad luck continued in the third race when his second bike broke its hub. Combined with his rides in Saturday's motos he was able to salvage a third place fmish for the match. Frank Hicks (Suz) of California was second and Vern Amor (KTM), British Columbia. took their only trophy, fourth place. , The Masters first place was captured by Kick Poulin of Washington. After each day's ride, a refrigerated truck containing p lenty of Blitz (?) Beer was worked on. H. Spencer SAN JOSE , CAL., AUG. 24 It was the last of the San J ose Class ' ~A" Sp eedway races on the schedu le and Ren o's Rollin ' Rich Maclvlurray proved once again that this track is indeed all his . Last year ' Rich won all three o f the regular high point track awards and of course No. One in the Nort h and fo r tonight won four o f the six ev ents he entered. He was top money winner and points gatherer winning all three of the scratch runs. It all started out w ith the first Handicap heat with MacMurray rolling by Rick Delacy at the checkered off the 50 with the crowd really getting into that portion of what Handicap racing is. Dennis Robinson choo-chooed his way off the 50 in the second heat over mighty Marty Benck, who is vastly improved in the past few weeks while mystical Mike Faria wo n his heat and trusty Rusty Davis held his zero yards to advantage winning over J ohn Cook and Sir Paul Orlandi o f the Knig hts of the Fast Guys Table. In the semis Delacy held on to his 10 yard operation for the win over Cliff Ball and MacMurray fighting through traffic while Orlandi wired t he o u ts ide cushion and won in very spectacular style, much to the pleasure of the jumping grandstand. The first scratch heat was indeed another thriller with Orlandi and Choo -Choo Robinson hooking up for so me great sliding with Sir Knight winning over the SP special. Marty Benck did in John Co ok in the second round while Cliff Ball held on over a crashing bunch with Mike Faria winning the third and Ma c.\lurray outdistancing Duane " Elegant " Yarrow in the fourth. MacMurray and Faria had a hell of a bash in the first semi, swapping spots in each corner, again to the del ight of the fair goers, who w er e re ally gettin g up for th is stuff. Rich won by an in ch or so . Ben ck held off the charging Knigh t in the second semi with Orl andi beating back dragons Yarrow and Ball to the Consolation. In th e main it was MacMurray an d Faria aga in , locked in mortal co mb at and once again they del igh ted th e fans with good broadsliding detail Sp eed way ra cing with Rich the winner as Fari a smoked the wheel at t he end . Rich Shafer and Dennis Pyea tt did the racing stuff in the Division II event s with Pyeatt the big winner in the main with Dan Jensen surviving with Don Murray in a crash infested m ain. Mike Faria got a win in the Handicap Consolation over Benck, Cook and Choo-Choo , who were all hooked up like the proverbial train while the end of the Handicap main came a little early as Rusty Davis got in a fracas with him self and crash ed ju st as Elegant Yarrow was going to slide r ight through the sp ace the crash occupied, leaving a hole in the fenc eafter Yarrow ran him o ver. Cliff Ball took the win with ' Orlandi and MacMurray setting up for the last lap . pass and not getting to it with Delacy fourth and shaking his head that he should h ave kept the Snooky Owens' bike at the poin;t just one more lap. • Sandhill Ranch MX By T.
