Last year the runner up's claimed
the Oregon team won because of
mu d, thanks to a downpour ju st
before the race, but this year the
California tea m was favored because of
a hot, dry, dusty track. As the team
races got underway, spirits of the riders
from the Sierra Motor Cycle Club,
Northern California, Washington, British
Columbia and Oregon Old Timers MC
wasWFO.
The Novice A riders led off the team
races. S ierra ride r Maynard Idl eman Won
the first and third motes on his Husky
and p laced second in the second moto,
winning his class for the day. In the
Novice B class, Oregon evened the win
with fast riding Dennis Pilla r galloping
his Yamy to three straight wins in his
gro up. Washington was next to get first
place points by Amateur rider Jack
Meyers (Yam) streaking in fo r a triple
win for the day. Oregon scored again in
th e combined Expert/Masters race whe n
Ron Brown, (first World Cham pion Old
Timer) came up 'th e h ill from out of the
dust bowl for three wins in h is class to
bring home more first place points. The
Masters class was good news for
Washington as Dick Poulin (Mai) beat
the best guys.
Sunday
A new day, a new way, each r ider is
on his own. Weather wise, track wise,
and rider wise, all conditions were go!
O nce again the Novice A gro u p got
first crack at the track, aga in the fast
old man from California domin ated.
May nard Idleman mushed his Husky
aro und, winning the first two motos and
taking a third in the last moto picking
up the overall win for both days of
racing. Don Witt (Hon) took second
with a 3- 2-1 ride as well as secon d
overall fo r the series. Third p lace Ron
Neu bau r of Sierra manage d to hang in
th ere for third.
