By the end of the firs t three lap s, th e trio had swapped places six tim es. It lo o ked like a t hree handed po ker game . On th e fourth lap, Gerig gave up h is spo t to Mik e McGowen (Hus) to che ck o ut a fla t tire. Blac kman pi cked up the top spo t and bl az ed h is wa y to the win. Saddleback Sat: Big guns come home By Danny Raymond I IRVINE, CAL., SEPT. 4 Many of California's top Pros showed up to do battIe during Saurday's 40 minute motos. During the Open Pro racing Gaylon 14 Mosier (Mai) and factory Honda's Rich Eierstedt rode two very close races behind Mosier who won both motos but never far ahead of the RC 400 of Eierstedt, FMF's Warren Reid had little trouble in winning the 125 Pro division, defeating his teammate Tag two straight motos. Highlighting today's Pro action was a very large and highly skilled 250 class. ' ' After the start Suzuki's Bob Elliott stormed into the lead, John Hateley ? (KTM ), Jeff Vidic (Mai), Tim Tolar , (Suz) and "Radical" Ron Turner (Suz) followed closely looking for an opening. As the p ack loosened up Bob Elliott quickly pulled into a commanding lead. Mike Bell (Hus), troubledwith a poor start, wasted little time in moving through the pack and fmally fmishing a solid third, behind Elliott and Hateley, and ahead of Vidic and Can-Am mounted Steve Rhyan. Again in the second moto Elliott held down the start and worked into a large lead . This time Mike Bell j e tted his Husky into sec ond, . ahead of Turner, Hateley, and Vidic. Vidic made his way in to third and got down to business with Bell. From this time until the last two laps of the moto Vidic and Bell traded second place at least five times until Vidic fmally made a pass stick and went on to second, behind Elliott. Bell settled for third, Rh yan and Hateley • - o unding off th e top five spots. CMC MX at OCIR By Tom Corley EL TaRO, CAL. , A UG. 25 The Cl\IC Night Motoc ross Championship will be held at Irwindale on September 10 bu t qualifying even ts for the big race have also been held here at OCIR. One sure qualifier for this final has to be Jeff Feinberg who does battle in the 250 Junior class. Jeff, who rides to win on a fast Maico, has been very consistent and won the 250 Junior class once again this evening. Dave Douglas, who also gasses a Maico, actually dominated the class with two firsts. but ended with fo urth in the final moto which gave the race to Feinberg. It was certainly an excellent night for Richee and Dave Collins. Both are sponsored by their family owned Collins & Sons Motorcycles and a very heavy win was scored when Richee easily won the 500 Pro class. Three first places won
