AMC MX at DeAnza By Rex Reese SUNNYMEAD, CAL., AUG . 15 Steve Montagu e (Yarn) and Rich Collins (KTM) dominated the Open Expert class in a lightly attended AMC meeting at DeAnza For the second year in a row, Pennzoil riders out-gunned the world's best to finish Number One in all three motorcycle classes at the SCORE World Off-Road Championships. Mitch Mayes .. . last year's open class winner, Mike Bell, and Bobby Jones . .. last year's 125cc Cycle Park, one of th e real "sleepers" of the motocross world Even so, this gave everyone a ch an ce to enjoy two super long motos in every class . Montague was th e overall winner with Rich second and Bill third. Doug McGowen (Mon) cam e closest to Steve with a 2·4 for sec ond overall, while Brad Sherrill (Suz) rode an uneven 6-2 fo r third. J ody Wy ech i (Mai) wen t for it in the firs t 250 Intermediate round as he was tailed by Kim Palmer (Suz) for second. But on the second time around, both riders switched finishing places which gave the overall win to Kim. Corky Stevens (Yam) wasn't too far behind the " leaders, and with a 3-5 gra bb ed third • Results in Results Section. champion all gassed-it to victory over the grueling 2.5-mile Riverside course with Pennzoil 2-Stroke Motorcycle Oil. CAL., AUG. 25 2SOcc Class Winner MIKE BELL ' Battle worn warri ors of motocross ' claimed their prizes for the South Bay Summer Series Wednesday night. Th e 250 Junior class was exceeded in entries only by the 125 Juniors. Brian Webster was the class champ ion on Vic 's Montes a. He p ic ked up the ni ght 's win and hi s second series cham pionship at South Bay and helped carry the Helix High School riders to their ch am pions hip last spring. Brian :\Ic Nam ara (Suz) advanced ' recently to t he 25 0 Pro class and placed th ird in th e ni ght's results wi th Mike Stearns (Hus) an d Marty Moates (Suz) running 1-2 in both mo tos. Moates finished with in 50 ya rds o f Stearns in both races. Steams won t he series cham pionship with Mik e Tripes the runn erup. . No ups ets were in the fmal point standings although surprises were in the nigh t 's resu lts .
