inch was laid on top of the regular su rface. The cushion was damp and semi loose, bu t mainly it was uniform, eliminating "grooves". Passing and lead changes we re the order of the nigh t with no serious spills and no injuries. Two J .A.P. riders got the Handicap started with a bang. Brian Bishop, and " Ziggy" Zeigler blasted their way into the Semis and from there took the venerable machines right into the Main. They weren't cherry-picking either as they went up against Grant Salyers, Do nny Faulkner, Scott Stone and Jack Martin. Zeigler gated his Hagan J .A.P. like a pro and moved right into a clear . lead. The mad scramble that followed him never really sorted out and favorites Salyers and Martin had to settle for fourth and fifth. Ziggy drifted out on rum four of the last lap, Donny got under him to grab the win. It was a first Hanford Main win for Faulkner. The 'scratchers' had added inducement, as . the fans p ut up a $75 j ackpot for anyone that - could beat six-ti me win ner J ack Martin fair an d 'square. When t he Main rolled around J ack was there with thr ee "hungrys" out to get him. Old rival Grant Salyers was flan ke d by newcomers Mark Tracy and Danny Fletcher. The whole pack tried. for the pole in the first rum . Obviously they didn't make it. After the dust settled, the race was re-started with Salyers in on a back-up unit. Second time au t was almost a repeat but somehow everyone got through and began battling. Within two laps Martin and Salyers were one-two with Martin doing the chasing. It looked like Jack was going' to get by several times, but Salyers was hungry and didn't let it happen. The fans went wild, Martin 's winning streak was broken and Salyers picked up the "Jack" pot. • Resu lts H ANDICAP MAIN: 1. Donny Faulkner. 2. Ziggy Ze igle r. 3. Scott Stone. S C RAT C H M AIN: 1. Lodi Me IT finale By An n Carr LODI ~ CAL., AUG. 13 T he Lod i Me capped o ff its 1976 TT scrambles season with the final night of scrambling for high point honors. Dennis Spence of Los Gatos ripped off two wins tonight to finalize his mastery of Lodi for the .season. Dennis has placed in every Lodi event win ning 13 of 15 500 events and four 250 races to boot. The only racer to come close to Spence tonight was J o rgy who gota late start in the 250 Main and charged hard but could not catch Dennis. Alex's second place assured him of the fourth place payo ff money behind Dallas Davis and brother Kim. Kim's late season bike change netted only one 'wi n following mid-series and thus second place money. He had previously won seven of eight Mains in the 250 ranks. Sportsman overall honors went this season to Union City's Jerry Kennedy who started the season a Novice and continued his winning ways as aJunior. Jerry won six Mains in the 360 division and placed in four others. Jerry's most serious competition for overall honors came from Open Junior Mike I\IcDonald . and 125 racer Richard Arnaiz who both . easily won their class honors. Richard took too m uch vacation time and those absences cost valuable overall p oints. Mike , meanwhile asked to be t urned Expert at the wro ng ti me and 0-36 officials obliged, knocking Mike out of co ntention on the last night of competition. Other class honors wen t to Kevin Cisco (100) , Fred Winters (200 ), Den nis Davis (25), and Rick McNally (500) . "The Cisco Kid" did what he had to do tonight. He read starter Dennis Hill perfectly in the Main, jumped out front, and held off challenger John Woods. A second this evening would have knocked Kevin ' out. Fred Winters received some help from his friends when John Rabideau and Garry Bedford (Fred 's competition) tangled in the tree turn and both left the course. Top Mini honors went this season to pe rennial winner Fred Merkel who won eight Mains in the 100 class this season. Fred also cops overall honors as 80 class top man Tracy Hays could not amass enough points. . • Results in Results Section. the action when it happens! ' BOSS Semi Pro at Argyll Park By Sallee Hilt on DIXON , CAL., AUG. I Pat Yoho - (Yam), In his first Expert ride, put on quite a show in the first moto of the 125 class. He pu lled err the holeshot, and held off seasoned Dave Wood (Han) fo r five laps before Wood m an aged to get around. Yoho never le t him get out of sight, but couldn't take him back. Keith Cometta (Han) took t hird . In the second m ot a , Wood rocketed off the line in front of the pack with Yaha hot on his heels, but the excitement was too much and after only one lap Yoho had to pull off the track to relieve the excess gastric acidity ! (It gets too messy if one tries to do so while maintaining position l] Wood built up a good lead running about half a lap ahead of second runner Cornetta, and every time Yoho tried to get back into the race he 'd have to stop again ! He later admitted that his trouble had started before take-off on the line. The 125 Intermediates on the track at the same time, with a 15 second delayed start were dominated by Danny Willis (Yam) who finished right on the tail of second Expert Cometta. In the first Open Expert mota Ted Rogers (Hus) led the other nine entrants for one lap before Danny Leet (Mai ) took overv -Leet pulled awa y for several laps before he crashed and Rogers had the lead back. Leet was back in the race before third runner Ernie Sullivan (Hus) took advantage. Meanwhile back in the pack eyes were on Robert Norton (Hus) who had started ninth and was '. m eth o dically picking off riders. Norton was boosted from fifth to fo ur t h when Rogers' bike broke. Leet led the rest of the race for the win, and Norton just. squeezed by Sullivan in time for the checkered flag. Leet led the second ro u nd all the way with Norton running second for seven laps before crashing. Sullivan moved in to take second for the mota and the overall cash. • Results in Results Section.
