Bein g a sidecar rac er myself, (motocross) I find it hard to understand why more people aren't in t o sidecars. We ar e no longer lim ited to balin g wire and an gle iron turkeys. With Yamaha 750 twin and Jlo nd a 750/4 en gin es, power is no question ' anymore a nd fram es are n o problem either. You can buy a Wasp or E.M.L. ch assis ready to go, and there are a dozen guy s in the SoCal area that possess the knowledge to build gOod handling frames. They 're more than glad to help someone out with either building or buyin g a sidecar. Also, one other thing has developed in th e last year, wh ich is the " ligh tweigh t" rig. These ar e powered by Open class MX engines such as Yamaha, Suzuki , Bul taco or Hu sky . Eve n the old T M 400 Suzuki has fm all y found its real purpose. They use a lot of standard MX b ik e parts, and w eigh fr o m 150 to 200 pounds less than a Ho nda 750/Wasp . They cost about half -as much t o build an d to top it o ff, the y go ju st as fast . (except maybe at T alla dega) . _ One th in g for sure, it's a real gas. When th e two-wheel motocr oss blu es set in, try three wh eels . 6 0% of the people we let try our rig, have decided t he n and there t o race side cars. BS · it strai ght Pops Yoshimura is doing research and development work on the Yamaha XS750D and Suzuki GS750; the results of which, for the time being, are to be used in the production of Yoshimura high performance parts. Pops will be campaigning . the Yoshimura Kawasakis next year in AMA roadrace - competition and will use the AMDRA Hot Bike Nationals as the initial test-bed for the newly introduced Z-I drag race components.
