For a "fun" MX, he sure looks serious. extraordinary style and usually wins. For this ' night of regular Wednesday Semi-Pro racing. The Hock easily won the 360 Expert, and was deep in the pack in the 250 Expert with a not-so-hot running Ossa that was led around by usual winner Don Bailey. Hocking didn 't getthe lead until the halfway mark of the 360 Expert 15 lapper, as Rick Delacy led the first seven laps over Steve Eklund and Bailey. Oh yes. whenever Eklund is around he ' usu ally works out this track as do a dozen others when the timeis r igh t. Delacy got the hustle put on him by Eklund in the No.4 corner, but got it back only to lose it all to the Hock who bull-dogged his Yamaha from the ba ck of the pack to take the lead and an easy finish, In turn, Eklund repassed the two time short track champion with Boss-framed Balley doing the same on the white flag lap . Keith Pechar pulled the 250 Junior win on his old SK Cycles Bultaco with Rocky Robinson surviving for second over new Junior Camm Johnson after ' Ronnie Stout crashed going for broke. Ex-mini whiz kid John Rabideau made his first big impression on the 125 Novices. winning over Tony Gordon and Lightning Larry Krusemann, • at Helvetia Motocross By Floyd Lewis SACRAMENTO. CAL., AUG. 7 Beautiful weather and a large rider tum-out were features of this District 36 motocross at Helvetia Park. While many of the top district Experts were riding the Can-Am Qualifier, two factory riders. Dan Turner from Yamaha and Danny LaPorte from Suzuki made this event. Turner, riding - both the 125 and 250 class. easily out-distanced Kenny Boswell to take the 125 Expert class despite a hard challenge by Phil Crane in the first moto. The biggest race' of the day was the 250 Experts and , a showdown between the two factory riders. As _it- ended up. the showdown never happened as Turner destroyed a rear wheel while leading the first moto, and Laf'orte crashed at th e start of moto number two. Local rider Brian Jodry took the overall win with John Minor second. In Amateur action Dana Waxham looked in top form as he swept a large 125 class. A first and a fourth place "finish was good enough to give Tom Larson the overall in the 250 's. Alan and Mark Barnard took first and third in the 125 Novice Division I, second went to Pat Crose. Bryon Goree won the slick track first moto and a third in the second moto gave him the overall, with Don Wilson fmishing second in the 250 Novice Division I. Division II went to hard riding Kevin Ichimura. Pat Riley and , Randy Westbrook took turns finishing first and second with Randy winning the overall in the Open Novice action. Kirk Booth kept hi s winning streak going in the 70-80 Novice class. Bob Mars and Dick Schornus. m em be rs of the Dirt Diggers North MC. swept the Vet class , with t hird going to Polka Dot Bob Beauchamp. The Old Timers class went to John McClure with Maynard Idleman taking second . The next event at Helvetia Park will be a ' two day race on Labor Day Weekend. September 5 and 6 and will feature a $2.400 purse for the Experts. Results in Results Section.
