Tessitore 's DG bike looked and sounded extremely well tuned for power plus speed, and no ' o ne co u ld beat it in the race to the first corner. Tessitore h eld on to his lead in the final outing, but Pete Wanket gave him so m e th in g to get excited about. Wanket couldn't "q uit e get around the S.D. speedster, rubbing knobbies and fenders often. Senior Wanket, Tony, trailed behind Smith, but collected t h ird overall behind brother Pete. Results in Results Section. Perris n By Do l In the opening moto of the 125 Pro s, Mark Tyer .grabbed th e lead in the first corner an d flat smoked the rest o f the field. La wrence started t o close the gap on th e T & M Honda rider bu t Tyer to ok th e checkered flag an d the win over Lawr en ce , Dave Pessy , J o hn Atwood, and Bo b Marino. In .the seco n d five-lap go , there was no denying the " Ma d Man", as Lawrence took th e lead early and never looked b ack. At th e che ckered , it was At wood for th e number t wo lPo t and Pessy held off Tyer for third. In th e fin al m oto Lawrence again ran o ff fro m th e rest of the field to score th e . win and the overall class honros. Atwood finished second overall whil e Pessy, third in the final m ota, was third in the overall standings. The 250cc Pro class found Lawrence r iding a Sweet Duck Suzuki. The " Mad Man", showing his strength on the bigger bikes, ran into one of th e best at Irwindale, J eff Vidic. Vidic, after placing third be hin d Lawrence and Val Tamietti in th e firs t moto, captured th e final two five-lap races for overall. Lawrence h ad to settle for seco nd overall with third going to Tamietti. Tamietti, the current CMC Pro point leader, made a clean sweep of th e 50 0cc Pro class . Kirk Johnson, a Perris regular, had his hands full, riding three classes, taking a win in th e 100cc class ahead of Mike Sharp. Kirk also took second in the 125 Amateur/ Expert. With many races under his belt, and lots of dollars outof his pocket, Mike Geraghty (Y am) was grirming from ear to ear as he picked up his fITSt trophy at Perris in the 250 Novice. Mike's one remark was he really loves to ride. In e the 250 Amateur/Expert John Sperry wasn't riding his .usual style tonight, at his favorite track. ' Sperry said, "I couldn' t get out of my own way," but we wonder if it was that he just wanted to watch Dorothy Rowe from the back, as h e set tl ed for second place behind her. He was so frustrated he fell in the third mota going for the win. The first Open Novice moto was won ' by Butch Parker, Jr. on a CZ and the win in the second Open Novice was taken by Yamaha mounted Lynn Wagstaff. Upco ming Dylan Neihart was trying for the gold in two classes, succeeding in the first Open Amateur/ Expert class and taking th ird in the 25 0 Am ateur/Expert. After a -lay off of several months, Jamey Blunt came b ack for second place beh in d Neihart. As the dust se ttled and t he scores tallied, the overall win for the last . Open Amateur/Exp er t was taken by Re x Hailey with Don Frauenberger for second, both on Yamahas. Resul ts in Resu lts Section . He picked up one first for the evening's work, but it came in the final moto , which was toO'late. Tony A p odaca, following in the Iootsteps of his brother Ray, has been learning his lessons. well. The 100cc Beginner class was very evenly matched wh ich always makes for good ra cing. The first moto saw Dave Clark home firs t followed by T ony , and T odd Hooper in third. The th ird moto saw Tony get it tog ether to collect th e gold. Hond a mounted Randy Sh oaf an d Hy Fallik he r r an one, two for the fir st two m otos in the 125 Beginner clas s and then Hy turned th e tables on Randy to take the final moto. It wa sn ' t en ough and th e win went to Randy by a slim o ne poin t m argin. Todd Sch ae ffer was in for th ird. Steve Morefield had it all to gether in the 125cc Novice class and Danny Dail wasn't able to do anyt h ing abo u t it until the fin al go round where he proved he co uld take him. Robert Pfetzing, who has been known to fla t track on occasion, rounded out the field with third. Jim Wright and Steve Feld outlasted the rest of the field in the 12 5cc Intermediate to finish one, two every moto , Rollie Smith and Robert Kitch ell dropped out with problems. Over half t he ' 250cc Beginners were unable to complete all three motos and Date Whitman, without ever winning a moto, took the overall win. , Rick .
