Hu ckans continued his winning performances in th e Scratch Main against Brad Oxley , Doug Skil es and Bryan Buffington, The 1976 King of the Hill Cup was aw arded by Advance Blueprint to Bryan Buffington who won a series of match races to settle a three-way tie among Oxley , Larry, Kosta, and Buffington, Buffington defeated Kosta an then Brad Oxley. Mike Tripes (OG Yam) lacked the speed and enthusiasm th at had carried him to three ex citing co nsecut ive wins in previous bouts with Stearns (Hus). He finished se cond to Stearns in the first moto and fell in th e second, finishing no better than third. Stearns said they have been doing some things to his Husky. He won both motos. Marty Tripes broke in practice and didn 't co m e to the starting line. Brian Webster wrapped up th e 250 Intermediate Championship on dealer Vic 's Montesa, but Ken McClendon (Mai), Chuck Trent (Suz ), Robert Storrs (BuI), Rob Hollinghead, and David Fisher (Kaw) are all going for second place on the final nigh t. Rick Wade has run away with th e point lead in the 125 Intermediate class. Always a competitor Wade dueled with Tony Gomez , taking a spill while trying to pass in the first moto. In the second moto George Speck jo in ed the battle, but Wade still placed thirdovera11 with Gomez second and Ken Olson winning. MX returns to Long Beach By Bob Ottow LONG BEACH, CA L. AU G. 8 86 riders rode thei r first !\IX in Lon g Beach since the close . of Lions Raceway when Long Beach Safety Council supp or ted Cycle 16 Haven held it's fir st bi -weekly MX ra ce. No 500 Pros showed, so the three 125 and fou r 250 Pros decided to co m bi ne their classes to mak e a bigger payoff. 125 Honda m ounted 'Fast Eddie' Clark jumped into t he lead with Jason Yodogawa (250 Suz) and Jim Slaughter (250 Suz) in hot pursuit but the race was flagged because of a poor start. The restart was a photocopy of the first one. Yodogawa passed Clark on the first lap , Slaughter foll owed suit a lap lat er. By now, th e 125 riders realized that th ey were out-horsepowered coming off the soft berms. Slaughter fell in the last lap to let Clark by for second.
