The regulars were in there, but their work gets harder by the week. Scratch racing mixed things up with regulars Salyers and Martin getting into Semis along with last week's Main winner Jeff Peltier . Grant Salyers looked like a runaway in his Semi until a 360 in tum four of the last lap cost him the transfer. In the Handicap Main, Grant Salyers faced a determined group of . new comers that took good advantage of their low yardage. Bob McClain jammed through the traffic to grab first. Ron Hardin stu ck to him like glue with Salyers co ming off the 50 fo r third. McClain's pace didn't allow any passing and with only inches separating them, that's the way they finished. . The Scratch Main put Jack ' Mar t in against another hot new group in Ron Hardin, Do nny Faulkner, and Frank Buttke. Faulkner and Martin got 'the holeshot in a two man drag race for tum o ne. Faulkner o n the pole, led going in and Martin stayed ' ou tside to lead co ming ou r, They diced for awhile with Faul kner never giving up the pole and Martin giving a few heart stoppers with some trouble in the high groove. Marti n pe rsisted, however, and won it. . Hanford has re-instituted the lap record attempt, made from a flying start against the clock for one lap. The scratch heat winners all took a .try, and Junior Speedway Champ Louis Kossuth also ran for it. The result was a tie between Kossuth and Jack Martin. A tie breaker was run with Martin emerging the winner.
