Allan Lescum (Suz) took advantage to go into the lead, followed closely by Brad Waterland (Suz ) and Ross Kennedy (Suz). At this point, the field stretched out a bit with plenty of dicing going on for the rest of the field of about 40 riders. The position changes in the middle of the pack at this point were many - only the lead riders and the . tail-enders .rem ained fairly constant. Elzea continued to put the pressure on Lescum by placing his front knobby right on the rear of the Zook. Mike Specht (Yam) took the honors for t he most customized bike, having re-arranged his rear fender to give it a "spoiler" effect. At this point, Elzea go t around Lescrum and tried to take off with one lap remaining, Elz ea managed to take the checker with Lescum a spl it second behind.
