Part of the D.G. racing team, in town for some local action before the National in Antonio next weekend, brought young David Taylor and two sano Yamahas. Roger Brown was there with his new 400 Penton and Danny Weir came down from Big Spring. The evening's action started, as usual, with a hotly contested 125 Novice division. The first seven riders in this class are so even in speed and ability at this point that in any given moto it's a toss up as to who will win. In the first moto it was Jerry Kamp in the lead out of the first tum. He held that to the flag as Darren Jeffcoat worked from fourth to second and challenged the leader for the last two laps. Ron Taylor was working his way up from about eighth when he lost it coming o ff of the downhill. Stack got a bad start and while he was working his way through the p ack Taylor was o ut fro nt and flying. With about four lap s to go Stackable broke free from the pack and caught Taylor. Passing him was another matter, however. Steve later said that he had neglected to pu t his goggles on and the way Ta ylor was burning up the track Stack just couldn't get by . T aylor brought it home in first with Steve right behind him and Roger Brown a ways back in third. The second moto started out looking like it m ight be a repeat of the first with David Taylor in the lead and Steve Stackable in second out of th e first tum. Within a lap, however, Taylor succumbed to the tremendous pressure being applied by the ve te ran National rider, Stackable, and laid it down in a tum letting Steve by. Steve went on to win with mild pressure from Roger Brown who was always there whenever Stack looked back. David Taylor worked his way back up to fourth behind Jack Hicks. • Results in Results Section.
