; -------------------------------------AME celebrates new MX track By Ted Titmas CAMARIL LO, C AL., AUG. 1 AIl to o o fte n riders have gotten their hop es up on the possibility of a new track only to be disappointed by one environmental group after another. AME really went out on a limb to secure a new tr ack in the Ventura-Oxnard area and put a race t oge th er with hopes that the Ventura City Council could be persuaded to allow the races to continue. An abundance of city officials were seen today at the track, including the mayor. Hopefully they were im p ressed by AME's well run organization and fine performances by the riders . More than a few eyebrows were raised when riders learned that they would be riding at what was once an airport. Most riders had pictured Camarillo Raceway as flat and unimaginative as far as motocross goes. But, most of them couldn't re m em b er when they had last ridden over an aircraft bunker either. An extremely larg e entry, along with the equalizer of a new track, provided excellent racing making for one of the best racing weekends in a long while. AME is hopeful over the possibility of future ra ces held at this track, and if nothing else, this weekend went a long way in promoting the sp o rt o f motocross. • AME Helmet House Series By Ted Titm as V ALENCIA, CAL., J ULY 30 Bobby J on es, Hal Strauss and Dave Haugh swam ped th e Pro classes in AME 's Helmet Hou se Summer Se ries bu t most of th e heavy rid ing took place in the Sportsman ranks. 125 In termediate Craig Boren rode to a classy overall and Paul Lane , who has been riding a s an Intermediate for only a short time, Jinished second.
