The women will be racing in the Suppo rt class, by invitation only, at Carlsbad, Oct ober 17 as part of the Can -Am series. J o Ann said the women are really excited about the opportunity to race fo r the same p o in ts , laps and cash as the men. The track was ripped up good today and the 250 Pros took full advantage of the speed it afforded. J e ff Vidic (Mai) literally exploded off the line and wicked it on t o an unreal lead. Behind Vidic we re 2 1 riders who wanted to pass him. Cl osest to accomplishing that fete were Val Tamietti (Mai), Marty Mo ates (Suz) an d John Smith (Suz ). Moto two had Nightingale Mfg. John Smith, getting the holeshot with Val Tamietti breathing down his neck . Third place rider Jeff Vidi c gassed it past John and Tami while coming down the big hill to take ove r first. Mid moto Moates moved up to third and started putting th e pressure on Sm ith. Jo hn stayed on the gas and Moates faded back to fourth givin g third b ack to TamL At th e end of the race, the points wen t to Vidic, Tamietti and Smith. The first 500 Pro moto was a runaway for Val and David Gerig (S uz) with their cl osest com petit io n co mi ng from Oceanside Suz u kis' Dale Anderson. Moto two Tamietti again got off the .line first but Gerig was only six places back. David worked his way up to second and crossed the fini sh only seconds after Tamietti. Fish 4 for 4 at Ascot MX By Mike Klinger GARDENA, CAL., AUG . 12 Women's number o ne plate holder, Sue Fish, aga in wasted the o th er eleven women racers to win her fourth m oto in a row in as many starts. Fish . aboard a YZ 125 Yamaha, grabbed th e two holesho ts , the two leads and two chec kered flags with no problems. Jo hanna Stenerson (Yam) went 2-2 for second overall and Kathy Brobeck (Hon) was th ird. With the lik es of Tyer, Nicol, Smith , e Doman, Lett, Carlson, Atwood and Bell co mpetin g, the 12 5 Pro division was up for grabs. Mark T yer (Yam) w on moto one over a closely bunched group of buzz-saws, The race settled down and Roger Sm ith (lI on) finished second after fighting off Doug Nicol ( FM F) , f" Dave Carlson (FM F) and pushing away Mike Bell (DG). ~ Moto two Carlson plunged into th e lead and moved on to the win. Cliff Lett (Hon] was right on Carlson 's tail for three lap s but managed to score a second. Irwindale night hotshoe John Atwood (lIon) finished third. After the e results were tallied, Carlson, with a 401 total, gained the first overall money. An excellent ride by Cliff Lett gave him , second an d Mark Tyer was third. The 250 Pro started out as a race, but z ended as a walk-a-way . J off Vidic (:\Iai ) led moto one for half a lap until Husky mounted Mike Bell blew b y him and pulled away .
