II5-a Katsmakers and his Honda Elsinore come from out of the pack to win 5t.Peters, Mo. 500cc NationaL Taking time of(from the Grand Prix wars of Europe, Pierre Karsmakers walked off with the overall victory in the July 18, St. Peters, Mo. 500cc National Motocross. This was Pierre's second National victory this year, already having blitzed the 250cc National finale atSouthwick, Mass. Noted for very good starts, Pierre was troubled in both motos and didn't get his usual jump . In the first mota, he started a distant fifteenth, But this did not deter the former 500cc National Champion from working his way methodically through the pack. In fact, so relentless was his attack that sections of the 15 ,000~strong crowd moved like human waves from corner to comer around the perimeter of the track to watch Pierre and his factory RC-400 Honda make their move on the leader. As he " . approached the lead position, the crowd sensedtheinevitable, and . when Pierre literally flew into the lead down a jump-studded straight~ away, they cheered their approval of his performance. Faced again with a come-from-behind proposition in mota two, Pierre set out to repeat his first -moto performance. But , as competitors crashed and broke by the wayside , it became obvious that another win would not be "necessary to bring Team Honda the overall honors. Once in fourth place, Pierre cruised home the day's victor. Another major win for Pierre Karsmakers and his Honda.
