The list released includes 35 riders and five alternates for the prestigious ISOT, sche duled for September 2()"25 near Zel tweg, Austria. Al Eames , AMA competition develop ment m an ager , also announced that the AMA has requested two more start ing positions fro m the Au stri a n organ izers of the event. Am ericans h ave already been guar an tee d 35 st arting spots. Although "no official , World T r ophy, Silver Vase, Manufacturer or Club team rosters ha ve been announced, Penton I m ports has requested and w ill be gran ted the U.S. Silver Vase effort. This marks th e first time sin ce 1970 that the 'Am erican World Trophy team will not be Penton-mounted. "Since Penton has elected to go wi th a Silver Vas e effo rt, we, now h ave the possibility of a m ixed U.S . T roph y Team representing as many as five or e ve n six manufac tu r ers, '" Eames commented. " Final announcement of team assignments within the American con ti ngent won 't b e made until we have spoken , to th e riders and un til the Austrian fede ratio n rules on our request for two addit ional starting slots." _. ' 36 Selection of U.S. riders was m ade b ased upon performances in th e recently -completed U.s. T wo-D ay Trial Cham p ionship Series, with previous ISOT performances and manu fact urer pr ef e rence a lso ta k en i nto consideration. " It should be an interesting year," Eames said, " sin ce our team will be a blend of established ISOT riders and rookies. A s always, thebehind-th e-scen e j ob s of J e_,!!!, management and support will be cri ticaT to our success." A totaf of 10 rookies are in cluded in th e 35-man roster, which also sh ows I I riders who h ave earned one o r more gold medals in ISOT competition . The ISOT is a six-day test of man and machine over . some 200 mile s of trails and roads each da y. In recen t ye ars, increasing sign ific an ce has been given to "s pe cia l t ests" which in clud e a cce l erat ion tests and cross-coun try rac es agains t th e cl ock. The premier award of th e tr ial is the W orld Tr ophy , gi v en to th e h ighest-placed six-man Trophy Team . Each nation m ay e n ter one team in World Trophy competition. Next -in prestige and significance is th e Silver V ase awarded the heat fo ur -man Vase team. Again , each nat io n is lim ited to one en try. in thi s category.
