Oack had a clean sweep going for him to this point.] Larry Chase survived the challenger main for his first Hanford trophy appearance and Lois Lindwall did a double lip lock for leading his team to victory in the team series. The team racing is being very well accepted by the Hanford fans . At the end of -t wo rounds the scoring was all tied up with six points for the So: Cal Smokers and six points for the T aft Tornadoes. In the runoff heat we saw some ge nuine team strategy ' as Louis 34 Lindwall moved up fran t for the Smokers and Tom Morley kept Russ Smith at ba y . Salyers got a second to score two points for. the Tornadoes but it wasn't good enough - the Sm okers took it 10 to 8. The Scratch Main wa s dyn-o-mit e l Jack Martin needed it to finish his clean sweep. But Salyers, Ferris, and Lindwall didn't care about that. Ferris got the holeshot, but from that point it w as difficult to tell who was where. Fin ally Martin and Salyers became the contenders as Lindwall slipped back a length. Fems had a co up le of heart stoppers as Martin began to really put the pressure on , but Tom kept his cool and Jack never got by . • Res ults in Res ults Section. Bill Grossi destroys a Fremont berm. the fact that it was only his third start o f th e year, the two ti me Nationa l champ downed th ree top No rthern California Scr at chers in an excellent Scratch Main. Bast had his share of bike proble ms t hrou gh ou t the night and missed th e Han dicap Main because of them, but still man aged t o win his heat off the 50 yard lin e. In a special m at ch race with Nor Cal No , 1 Rich M acMurra~ , the two di d a re al w heel-to-whe el thriller wit h Ro llin ' Rich taking the w in by a co me from behin d p ass. The Handicap Main was a thriller too , with MacMurray on the 50, Dennis Robinson , Mike Fari a and Mike Ro oney on the 40 , Duane Yarrow on the 30 and Cliff Bailon the 10 . The track was at its best with a fine cushio n and very fast. Ball led every lap for the win but it was hot , with Yarrow riding a close second and Robinson getting by Faria for. th ird on the. first lap. Chao Chao went right to work o n Yarrow wh o wa s cooking the rear tire with go od sideways m ovement th at kept Robinson in tow for two laps. On the fourth round Denny went under going into tum three. Yarrow got too sideways and went ' o u t with too much wheel spin cau sing the fast closing Robinson to elin inate both. The two were just inches behind Ball, who then had it eas y as MacMurray had to go wide to avoid taking Robinson to the fence and also causing Rooney to take drastic lines. Mike Denny , cleaned Division II clocks, while Rick Delacy co n t inu es to im prove his st yle taking second over Jeff Colard and Dan Jensen. As for the. Speedway North week, Cal-Expo was a cancel when the ra ce track turned in to a mud-o-cross, AMA ref Fred Spencer wisely called the meet off due to safety. ' Tuesday nights at Reno are well under way and hopefully , the old 182 Cessna will make it over the top on e of these weekday nights. • Results in Results Section . " Grossi along wi th over 300 other riders reall y got off on the track wh ich was prepared well once again: However, one of the main generato rs supplying power to one side of th e track blew its guts out, thus eliminating one side of the track almost completely . TIm Meyer rerouted the co urse and all was ri ll:h t once again. Glenn Jennings (Ha n) blasted away from th e rubberband in th e first 125 Pro mota with Dan Geery and Bill Grossi (both on Suzukis] not far behind. Grossi had his work cut out for him trying to get by Dan Geery. Several times Billy wo uld line up Geery for a passing attempt only to have the door shut on him. Grossi finally dove hard under Geery in a dark tum. After that it was full steam ah ead after Jennings. Bill got b y Jennings with relative ease . Meanwhile back in the pack Paul Turner also on a Suzuki was having it out with Mike Preston (Suz) for fifth place. Dan Geery beat out Neal Snarr for third. Round two found Grossi out front with Kent Oassen (Han) - who had finished ninth earlier - now running second. Grossi held his lead until the finish with Classen following him in and Neal-Snarr third. . Bill J ohnson (YZM) got the holeshot in the first round of the 250 Pros. Following J ohnson was Bill Grossi who was h aving a hard time getting by the Yamaha r ider from Hayward. Grossi persevered and it paid off on the next to the last lap, as Bill swooped by Johnson after battling briefly with Phil Crane (Suz) and Ken Sisler (Mai) . Mota two things didn't go so well for our friend Grossi as he pulled off the line in a rather mediocre position. ~ he raced to get past the riders ahead of him Bill went down in the big sweeper and several more riders got by. Phil Crane who h ad finished third in the first moto was now 'runnin g first with Bill Johnson quite aways back in , second. By the time Grossi was able to get going again he co uld only manage a sixth at the flag . Overall Cran e won again, the second time in two weeks for Phil. • Res ults in Results Section.
