Rubly rips for .two By rom Blattler IRWINDALE, CAL ., JULY 2 "White Knuckler" winner David Taylor returned to the. 125 Pro wars along with his teammate Gary Denton. Tim Lunde, who has been . looking remarkable the last couple of weeks, John Atwood, and Mike Bell also entered the battle. The opening five-lapper was all Taylor and the race was actually for second between Atwood and Lunde. The two Honda-mounted racers battled back and forth with John finally able to hold off Tim at the finish, The second moto again found Taylor in the lead with Denton second and the pack swapping positions. However, on the second lap, as he moved over the "Molly Blue" jump, Taylor's Yamaba had its front forks go away hard, and David was pitched right over the handlebars. Denton then took the lead with Lunde second followed by 'Atw o od , Bill Fancher, and Delligatta, Bell had been challenging for third with Kelvin Frank's experimental roadracing Yamaha twin, when a rod went through the side of the case and Mike was out for the night. Taylor, who had crashed quite hard, was able to walk back to the pits with only a sprained knee. In the f"mal mota, Lunde needed a .seco nd to claim the overall top honors, and that's just what the veteran got. Tim laid in behind Denton, who had grabbed the lead in the first comer, and held off Bob Welch and Doug Nicol to take second in the race and first overall. Denton took second overall, third went ' to Atwood. The 250 and 500 Pro divisions also had some excellent racing, but 1975 CMC Pro champion Bill Rubly took home the top prize in both classes. In the 250s, Mark Lawrence and Jeff Vidic supplied the competition for Rubly, but Bill captured the final two motos to secure the overall. Vidic was second with Lawrence, who won the f"m't mota, third.
