But this race, Mark Hom chi ck, a young upstart and hanger-on at th e Cycle magazine shops, realized a dream when he beat Karpynec. Homchick rides a Gordon jennings RD250 with racing slicks. Karpynec rides an old, beat-up Suzuki he tunes himself and rides on K81 street tires. At - their first ra ce , Karpynec ' easily rode away from Homchick, but commented later that he won by riding very hard, something he usually didn't have to do. At this race, Karpynec was passed by Homcbick and fe 11 behind.
