Riders from Colorado, Texas, Kansas , Nebraska, Iowa, and North thrown chains and ver y unexpected crashes. Some of the slowest times of the year were set on the 3 50 foot hill. In the 350 class Tony Hudson , who rides a 350 Honda thumper, was one very happy person . On his first try at th e hill he set a tim e of 10 .9 9 seco nds an d that's all it took for first place. Most of the small bike p ilo ts were surprised when they could n o t even get to the ledge. Only four bikes in the 125 and 200 classes managed to ge t that high. Sunny Holmes fro m Texas on a 200 Bultaco went the highest of these four before the sand ate his lunch at 161 feet. Tracy Davidson on a 125 Yamaha, a Texan also, was the next highest wi th I 51 feet and six in ches. Only one rider in the 250 cla ss fou nd the top and only one time at th at. He was George McGraw of Nebraska o n a 250 Bul taco , He also took his 350 Bult aco ove r an d both times were very close. The 11.1 se conds on the 25 0 looked very good next to the I I flat on the 35 0. George h ad the hon or o f ha vin g th e first and second rid es over a very tough hill.
