Teams participat ing were Can ad a, Washington, Ore gon , So uthern Cal ifornia an d Northe rn California. In a ttendance and riding fo r Orego n was th e first No . O ne World Champion fro m Portland, Or egon and sti ll burning it , Ro n Brown. Sin ce tha t day in 1974 Ron has crashed and injured himself so mu ch tha t he h as slo we d slightly and ro de a class lower (E xpert) t o take a goo d th ird place trophy home . Washington returned home with all the team racing apples. Pun in tended . If there was a team w ith more en thusiasm t han a high school cheer leader's team . it was Wash in gt on . In th e Amateur class the top 10 places were infested wi th the green shirts taking all but two o r three of th e top 10 pl ac es. It was cer t ain ly " Ha il t o Wash in gton," this day . Everyone had lots of fu n , especially the real yo ung kids who rode with dad. In sp it e o f the d ust an d th e bum ps these kids were smiling and en thusias tic at every checkpoint and re ady fo r m ore at the finish line . The wo men who rode thei r o wn bi kes were pl eased at th e chance to ride inste ad of sitting aroun d the cam p all day and they di d well, all of th em co lle cting a finis her's pin an d much sat isfactio n fro m the r ide . The ha rd co re en d u ro riders o f the day were the little ones o n their Honda 50s . . . dete rmined 10 0 ks on their faces, eye s sh arp for the arro ws and noses p ointed straight down the trail , they boogie d on lik e min iatu re I.S.D .T. t yp es. C.E. R.A . di d a good jo b o n th is o ne . There were friendly peop le an d ice co ld wate r a t the chec ks. The co urse and the speed avera ges we re pretty challe nging . The club provided an . emergency gas point and ple nt y of people throughout the co urse to help out in case o f trouble, They go t a variance from the co u n ty for the use of hard t opped ro ad . .. in fact C. E. R.A. has rece ived mu ch coop era tio n fro m the lo cal people , from the ran gers (a ranger-ride r laid ou t the co urse) and from the C.Il.P. C.E.R.A. is o ne of the more resp o nsib le and pro gres sive d u b s in Northern California and the me m bers work hard to pl ease th e non riding public as well as the riders. There was o nly one mishap. After the en d u ro , T im Da y was ret urning to his van o n his bike when he was hit by a van with b ike trailer attach ed. The van didn't stop . It was a beige van and o ne of t he bikes 0 11 the tra iler w as a Can-A m , Tim is in the ho sp it al with a sep ar ated shoulder and internal injuries. O.T.H.G.A. supports Old Timers By Lucious LeRoy . MAMMO TH , CAL. , JU NE 19·20 Fifty-seven mem bers of the Over T he Hill Gang j ourneyed north to Mamm oth Lakes for two days of very competitive racing. A total of six 15 minute mo tos (3 on Sa t. - 3 on Sun .) were req uired to gain an o vera ll finishing position. Most members m ade it a week's vacation in the beautifu l Mammoth setting. The en ti re meet w as climaxed by a banquet and trop hy presentation at the Mam mo th Sk i .Lodge, attended by 400·plus, hosted by the Old Timers and :>Ir. Dave :>IcCoy o f Mammoth Mountain. The trophies were fantastic ! Th e Expert class was led b y Lanky Larry with his protege J an itor j err y , waiting for the day he can sweep up his teacher, com ing in fo r second. A very Repulsive Ray. fro m the north, made th e J an itor's jo b harder wit h a close third. Mu ff Max, fro m t he no rt h, closed his teammate - Ridi cul o us Rex, fo r a fi rst and secon d in th e Amateu r class.
