Rick Woods, cap tai n of th e Eagles. is still on the sidelines, recovering from eye su rgery. It was an ou tstandin g n ight o f racing with the score jumping back and forth as the two teams too k turns pulling off clean sweeps - three times for the Eagles and four for the Sizzlers , Th ings may h ave been tied up if not fo r a disqualification laid on Billy Gray wh en the SRA referee n ailed him for putting Jim Fish back into the crash wail. Not known at the ti me, J im's left foo t was broken. No wonder he couldn 't ride his last race because of the pain. Jim did second on his team to Ron Preston who had nine. Mike Bendy 's win in the Handicap Main will surely put his name high up on the waiting list. The way the top riders are being sidelined, Mike may not have to wait too long for a team ride. Bakersfield, June 26 By Dennis Greene Back on April 17, opening night in Kern County , the Ventura Sharks beat the Bandits on their home track, bu t no one has since. Five tim es the Bandits pulled o ff clean sweeps. Two times the Sprockets tied up the score, bur .the Bandits came right back with a sweep. The final score, 46 to 3 2, took ne arly two hours to run, because of the heat, restarts, crashin g, and rider stalling. ' About 9 :30 th e second half got underway with th e Junior Speedway ride rs, but they kept running into each other. Mad Dog Mitch was taken off the track with a broken shoulder and it took four restarts to ge t their show running. The Division Two riders played it a little safer than usual and after two heats and a Main, Brian Buffington took the top sp o t. j eff Sexton won the whole ball of wax in the First Division Handica Main. •
