Kanemoto prepared Kawasaki across the
finish line first, Nixon diced with Kenny
Roberts for the first five laps, taking the
lead from Roberts for good at the
halfway flags. Randy Cleek, David
Aldana, Gary Scott, Gary Fisher, Dale
Singleton and Walt Foster followed the
two former Grand National Champions
Scott's performance was outst~nding
as he started at the back of the pack
with what appeared to be a clutch
problem that had him circulating in
circles behind the starting grid
