before he dropped to third. This time it was Mickey Kessler who got by before Smith restarted. The clock ran out before he had time to stage another recovery. Round two Anxious riders tried ' to outguess the starting gate as the one minute card turned sideways, and the impact damaged the heavy metal unit forcin g a fla g restart. At the second start. Broc Glover read flagman Carrol Chandler best and showed the p ack through tum one. Hot on the tail of Glover's DG Performance Specialties Honda was Don Kudalski, already on his way to scoring the moto win. At the completion of lap one, Glover led Kudalski, Westerman, Hannah, T&M Engineering's Ron Turner and Steve Wise. On lap two, Bob Hannah slipped into third . Kudalski was applying considerable pressure to Glover, and at the start of lap three, he got past and into the lead. Mickey Kessler, eighth on lap one had moved up to fifth . Two laps later, Bob Hannah had eased in behind Kudalski and was once again p laying his pressure-and-wait game. It to o k a few laps, but Kudalski fin all y m ade an error in j udge ment, taking the outside line around a lapped ' rider an d got p ushed over a berm.' In a flash , Hannah cu t to the inside and p assed both riders for the lead. But "Killer" Kudalski wasn't thro ugh, yet. He wanted that moto win. He attached his Honda to the Yamaha's rear fender, steadily pushing and looking for any opportunity to re pass. It came two laps later on a drop-off section. With Kudalski back in the lead, Hannah at first returned the pressure but then, coming off the small straightaway jump, he almost crashed. The Yamaha, again having trouble with the monoshock fading late in the moto, began swapping ends. Cutting perfect 90 degree swaps, with his feet off the pegs and flapping in the breeze, Bob somehow saved it . But he didn't chase Kudalski anymore, instead opting to match the pace and assure his safe, secure overall win. Jimmy Ellis had by this time taken over third and kept it through the remainder of the race. Marty Smith had not started well, back in 13th on lap one. He wo rked up gradually at first but, reportedly, came into contact wi th Billy Grossi when the Suzuki started getting out of hand and wen t down also. He was able to recover somewhat, t akin g sixth at the moto's end. Steve WIse foll owed Jimm y Ellis . 'across the finish line, backing up his first round fifth place with a fourth in the second m o to , Steve's 5-4 total pu t hi m third overall behind Hannah and Kudalski. Smith's 3-6 took fourth and J im m y Ellis ' 7-3 was good for fifth overall. Charlie Sun, riding his Rocky Coursen tuned Husqvarna, left little double concerning who'd win the Support class this week. Sun put together an easy-appearing double, moto win for a perfect overall 1-1 score. Backing up Sun's win was Michigan's Don Sinclair on his Action Yamaha who totalled a 2-3 for the afternoon. Mike J ones put a Kawasaki in third with a steady 4-4 over Suzuki rider Denny Swartz's 5-5. Husky rider , Dennis Edmiston rounded out the top five with a pair of sixes. • Results 125ee NATIONAL: 1.
