As in the last series, scoring was acc o mplished by subtracting the riders finishing position from the total number of riders in each mota, then selec ting the best five out of six possible moros for a series total. Scoring this way turns ou t to be so mewha t difficult but is the fairest w ay to se lec t the be st riders. The series t ro phi es wer e given out ab out an hour afte r the day's regular trophies had been distributed. There is n othing quite like getting two trophies in o ne day . One of th e hardest fou ght classes th ro ug h o u t the series was the 25 0 Novice with the amazing 44 year old Llo yd Longmire taking his KTM to th e fir st place trophy. In the Open class , Bu tc h Jennings was ab le to squeeze ou t an overa ll victory in some tight. co m pe tit ion . Victors in other classes were: Bru ce . Under ideal weather condi tions the 250 A riders lined up at the starting line. Jack Todd, riding under new sponsorship, was off the line on his new Suzuki and ap pear ed for a t ime to be pulling away from the field. It was later learned that Todd had a bad case of the flu and rather than let his new sponsors down, he would elect to ride all classes regardless. Well, he did his best, particularly d u ri n g the first mota. Under normal co nditions Todd would have hung on but looming in fourth pl ace back aways was Glase nap p on the Bultaco. This was what you'd call your fun event. From sitting on a ballo on to b reak it, to running to your bike an d starting it and m a kin g it across the finish line before anyone else. The group of riders who turned out were the kind that enjoy a lo t of nonsense. Other non -se n ical even ts ' wer e runn in g around a pole ten ti mes with - your head do wn then goi n g t o your motorcycle, starting it , and going ac r oss the finish line, all the while dizzy as the original dingbat. Still another was kicking a beer can along u ntil yo u go t it across the line while riding your bike. Yet another was picking up a can at one end of the event area and taking to a circle at the other end. Do this fo ur ti mes and then squirt across the finish line.
