You could tell it had been some time since the hotshoes of D-35 had raced this track. for the spinouts and crashes were numerous. When the IOOcc Juniors took the track. it was Tom Pritchard (Yam) at the point but not for long, Scott Cude (Yam) got by on the straight and stayed out front for keeps. Frank Schoenbachler (Suz) and Carl Wilkerson (Suz) slipped by Pritchard in the first tum of lap two and diced for second the remainder o f the race. Rodney Sullivan (Yam) grabbed the . 125cc Expert lead and had .no problem keeping it. But back in the pack there was an argument for second and third between Ricky Hicks (Yam) john C!~ricuzio. (Y~). and jack jone; (Suz). . \\Ith Clericuzio m second. third placer Hicks lost control in the first tum of the last lap giving jones that position , but not for long for· he bobb led in the third tum and Richard Torres (Yam) snuck past. In the 360-500cc Junior event, Paul Shafer (Yam) took the lead off the line but not more than a bike length behind was Fred Gill (Bul) and Visalia's own. Scott Andrews (Suz) . Gill pulled by Shafer between the right-banders and stretched his lead a little on lap three. Gill took the checkers and Andrews with a hard char ge to the line, failed to edge Shafer out of the second spot. Rick Roeder (Yam) dominated the 250cc Novice class taking both the heat and the Main while Lee Pritchard (Yam) a very fast J unior. was the on ly double winner taking the 125cc and I75-200cc junior Mains. The "man of steel" award went to Scott Podergois, who while leading the 250cc Experts, did a 50 fo o t tank slapper, crashed extra hard. then walked away. • Results in Results Section. Delacy digs it By W.H. Spencer FREMONT. CAL.:MAY 26 Rick Delacy dialed in Fremont's oval for the feature win, the overalllead in points for the class, and a tie for overall high point with Mike Frozen. who remains in lightweight co mpet itio n . havmg made the transition from 125 Novice to junior with a win. Delacy led all of the 15 laps with some furious flying going on behind but at quite a distance. Rodger Slack, Dan Castelhano, Don Bailey and Danney Hogue were all bunched together for the first lap . Going into the No. two comer on the second rou nd Hogue got to the beserking stage and that left a very disgruntled Castelhano on the ground . Hogue went to work on Slack who was working on Bailey. The Boss fra me riders held their own until Donny went a tad wide opening a gap for Hogue who then went and reeled in Slack for second. In the 250 Expert Main it was . ~other t.ooth and nail race with Delacy . Mike Faria, Don Bailey again. and trusty Rusty Davis.
