The rain stopped just long enough for the officials to decide if the guys were crazy enough to ride - they were crazy enough to let them. The bigger bikes were sent out first in hopes they could work up a little traction for the smaller bikes. Nobody will ever know if it worked because every ti me you turned around there was a new downpour. , { Among the Pros were three Boise riders who had come to Oregon for a full weekend of racing. Th'ey showed amazing poise for a bunch of dry landers accustomed to sandy soil. Local rider Lewis Swan rode way out front like his Suzuki had an o utboard motor. The spaghetti feed was en ded with the naming of t he te n high-p oin t moto cro ss win ners of t he year. In the n umber one p ositio n was Milan Garrett with a total 202 points, f ollowed by Jim Elliss, 198, T on y Vidaurri, 193. Jim Birges , 19 2, Steve Par ker , 192, Ted Hill, 18 7, J eff St allin gs, 186 , Mark Ginger, 178, J eff Park er, 176, an d Kevin Phillip s, 175. With 47 racers showing for the 125 J r o n Sunday, 't he moto was di vide d in to two divisions. Division I showed a hard-pressed victo ry for Charles Brady (Han) over Doyl e Beagles ,(Yam), who had worked his way up from six t h. To n y O 'Reilly (Ha n), Bra d Martin (Hon), and J ohn Lo nginetti (Yam), swap ped p laces all through the Division II race, with Martin winning. In 125 Pro, J im Flowers held th e lea d from the beginning until the checkered flag went down, while TIm Wo rth an d Kevin Frazier fought for second place. Frazier to o k sec o n d, an d the $30 that went w ith it, an d Flowers wo n $50 for first p lace . Milan Garrett (CA) reclaimed his fir st place standing in the 250 Pro category on Mo n day a ft er losing it the day be fore . On - Sunday, Garrett had been holding a strong le ad in the race , which hel d a SJ10 purse and a $5 0 co n tingency fro m Mission Distribut ing, when bi ke t ro u ble caused him to drop to , fourth . Scott Karl (Mai ) took firs t , that da y. Monday's Open Pro race ca n only be describ ed as "fantasti c.
