Alexander has always been an excellent rider, but the six months he spent racing in Southern California was definitely sh o win g in his riding style. Look for him at Sa ddleback. ' 250 Expert, Ray Kah oo kele (Mai), who usually wins when Hag i's not around, was looking very fast with his wide o p en, pass anywhere style of riding as he took second overall. He made exciting , co me-from-behind charges after a crash w hile leading in the second moto . In the Open Expert class, Sandy Brodie (Mai) , wh o own s th e Islan d's nu mber o ne motocross shop, Windward Cycles, showed his Ti bbl in conditioning with thr ee firsts holding o ff Steve Kuenstl e (CZ), an d Loren Smo u t (CZ). Ryan Crivello grabbed the holeshot bu t fell after three laps o n the slick , Ex pert h ill , an d Ke rry Sugi hara got .by , T here was some hot an d heavy dicing between Mike McG uire (Ho n) , Tony Moniz (Suz}, Ryan Crive llo (Yam), and Jo n Bratten (lIon). Jon 's consistency awarded him the win, with Mike McGuire second, and Tony Moniz third. In the 250 Amateur class, Fra nk Souza (Yam) got th e holeshot and stretched his lead to the flag in the first two motos. But in mo to three he looped it at the gate and made a hard charge fro m last to third, which would have tied him 1-1-3 with Bob Phillips (Hus) 2-2-1 but he ended with second. Pulling out the stops, he tried for an outside pass around Ernie Freitas (~Iai), but losl it, along with the win . So uza got second behind Phillips with Keith Stone (Mai), third. Here on the Island of Oahu, we have a race about every three weeks at the Waialee Motocross Track, th e only Hawaii Motorsports Association (HMA) track.
