shift shaft. The shifter bolts on to the shaft in the normal
manner and then an additional plate is bolted to the
frame gusset. The shifter connects to this p late via a
pivot pin so that the shifter moves up-and-down while
being supported from two sides. Mechanically the shift
lever is suspended in pl ace so that no flex or slop can
interfere with the movement of the cogs .
To put this baby on you have to drill two holes in the
gusset so that the plate lines up perfectly with the shifter
pivot pin. The first time we missed and the bike didn 't
shift very well. When we finally got everything aligned
all the Bultaco riders loved it . It was great they all said.
Nobody could miss a shift now was the concensus of
opinion. So we lent it to a non-Bul rider and he missed
enough shifts to ruin the elastic in his jockey short. Our
op inion of the MCE shifter re mains that is is the best
thing to hap p en to Bultaco transmissions in a lo ng time.
