Of 62 ,000 acres, two-thi rd s is designated for the use of motorcycles, dune buggies and four-wheel drive vehicl es. The rest is a segregated and protected natura! area, and a sand play buffer zo ne . Pole fences separate these areas from the ORV use. At first used principally by lo cal residents, 185 .000 visitors came in 1975. Large sums have been spent by the county on roads leading to the area.
