Plen ty of racing was enjoyed by al l, and even the women and kids ran a full three moto program. It 's a little difficult t o go ho me and co mplain about how tired you are when yo u r wife rides as long . and hard as you do . The hotly co n tested Expert clas s was won , but not too easily , b y th e n orth's Man iac Mike. Tim go t a lit tle tacky in the first moto and had to settle for a second while Corroded Carlos, probably the most improved rider in the cl u b , came up with a third. Intermediates were smoked by northerner Daisy Dave as Chunky Chuck, after starting all the races with the help of Wdnie Wayne, worked into second. Petrified Pete gave him o ne . heck of a battle but had to take the third backseat , . Tipsy Tom put the Dung on Dennis for a first and second in the Novice class with Redneck Rex settling in for third. Now the Gorgeo us o ne, George fro m th e north, barely squeezed a Begin ner win away fro m Toilet T om from the south. Mini Mike's wife told him to sit down and score and she would t ak e ca r" o f the racing, she did, with a win . Hanky Herb will have to co m e home from work ea rly en o ug h t o d o the d ishes and washing, as Lady Hanky ca me up wit h a second, She says she never ra ced before b ut we've already heard that story. Kids under I 2 were led by Doug Ford, fol lowed by Richard and Mike Romero . Kids 12 an d over we re led by Jack Carpenter, Recy cled Ralph's boy . .Elsinore n By Andi Gangewer ELSINO RE, CAL., MAY I Since the Dirt Diggers were . at Elsinore p racticing for the Dinosaur race the folIowing morning, a special race was held for them. Bruce Johnson, aboard a 400 Yamaha, held the lead for two laps but Tony Epperson, on a·500 Yamaha, came from third to take the win. Bruce fini shed second and Mitch Shook, also aboard a 500 Yamaha, was third. Rick Blankenship had his work cu t out for him in the 125 Beginner class as the 14-year-old won a hard fought battle against David Cote. Besides the trophy he picked u p a new Novice rating. The Mini Begin ners an d Novices ran together with one trophy awa rded. Jeff Eary is becoming a no t too novice Novice an d p ro ved it by taking the checkers every mot o. Little Russell Brown, the yo ungest rider at six-years-old, held the lead for two laps, but Eary m ad e short wo rk of it. Brian Pierce sees aw ed back an d fort h fro m second to t hird a nd as th e race finis he d he slipped into second with Brown third. A fu ll class of 250 Amateurs put toge th er some very interesting races. Ten Amateurs showed up and two riders were awarded trophies. Riders . we re bun ched together like ban an as as Mit ch Zehner blasted out front to ta ke the win. Gary Smith ca m e from wa y ba ck in th e p ack to tak e t he second trophy. • Taylor & Vidic win ' streaks scratched By Tom Blattler IR WIN DALE, CAL. , MA Y 7 Two winning streaks were broken in the weekly CMC night m otocross p ro gram as David T aylor and Jeff Vidic fou nd bike trouble, crashes, and tough competition holding them b ack fr om another victory in the 125 an d 250 Pro classes. Taylor saw his best friend, teammate and arch rival Gary Denton take home the top 125 Pro money, while Vidic had to settle for third overal l behind Dave Carlson and Val Tamietti in the 250s. Taylor and Denton battled into the first comer for the lead only this time David came up e mpty-handed when he slid out. Denton went on to claim the first five-lap mota over Honda-mounted Cliff Lett and Dave Pessy, Mota two found Taylor attempting to make up ground after his tenth pl ace finish in the firs t race b ut David couldn't catch up to the high -flying Denton. Third went again to Pessy with John Atwood (Yam ) taking his second co nsecutive fo urth posi tion. In the fi na l m ota, Den ton scored a clean sweep a nd Taylor's fo ur-week win st reak was history. Taylor had dr o pped out wi th b ike trouble and second overall went to Pessy fo llowed by Atwood. Vi d ic's win ni ng st reak was sh o t down as Davey Carlson re tu rned to Irwindale for t he first time in over a month to cap tu re the first two motos and coast to a third -in the fina l. CMC poin t lead er Val Tamietti rode his Track 'n Travel Maico to a firs t, second and th ird place finish in each mota and just barely beat out Vid ic for se cond ov erall . J e ff , wh o placed second tw ice a nd third on ce, had to settle for th ird.
