A. County brought their own class ou t to Elsin ore and there were 14 o f 'em scattered all around th e tr ack for t he " Van Cub Spe cial " race . Frank Barj as of Bellflo we r t ook the go ld in this unusu al class wi th a clean sweep in ev ery moto. Meanwhile , Mike Tidwell proved th at he can still whip the big gu ys even after an extended absence. The little time bomb blew off the 250 Ex pe rt, 125 Amateur /Expert and Special Expert fo r th ree trop hi es. Mike sh ot by J oe Steffe n in th e 25 0 Expert go and went on t o fmish firs t in mota one. No way was J oe go in g to let Tidwell take the win as he shot off the line in the sec o nd race and held on with a vice grip . The bomber was re ally ti cking moto three and Mike w as the easy victor. Duane Gall ager, an up and coming Expert to be, challen ged Ti d well to a duel in the 125 Amate u r /E xpert class. Duane held the advantage o f starting in front of Mike in moto one and the win was Gallager's. The next two races were just bare ly won by TIdwell. Mik e had t o work his way through the pack and jus t in ti me for th e finish , Mike slipped in to fir st . Mota th ree was Mike 's on ly afte r a re al work o u t wi th Gall ager. TIdwell and Steffen b attled it ou t in the Special Expert class. Joe h ad the win in moto one leaving Mik e to se cond. Alan Smi t h (F~IF) took over top spot b ut Moates be gan a fu rious a tte mp t at the new leader, catchin g and passing Smit h wi th half the mo t a lef t.
