Sec S.R.l>.S . 4 [, Getting dumber every year This letter is both a general and specific comment on desert pit racers, especially concerning the youngsters who ride around on their minicycles. The first group I . encountered was right at the entrance to the pits of the Simi Valley H&H. There were about 10 kids (approximately 6-8 years of age), using the road as a track. Even moving slowly, I wasn't sure if they would see me , and hitting the truck would really hurt them. This is my general comment. My specific comment is that I was hit by a pit racer (pit squirrel?) while going through the pits between the ftrst and second loops. Some kid decided to cross fro m one side of the course to the other , right in front of me. Insta nt crash, and a badly cut and bruised leg for me , luckily - and the end of the race. He would not tell me anything such as his name, where his parents were, etc. Apparently we now have well trained pit squirrels. I don't. have any solutions except perhaps setting aside a special area for the younger kids and their 80cc toys. Or maybe ribbon the course through the pits. But the desert is now as crowded as Los Angeles City streets and parents should teach their kids enough road rider manners to survive and let us survive too. Remember, dumb parents make dumb kids. BORIS DOBROTIN San Gabriel Valley M.e. Please take care I would like to thank Rescue 3 and Simi Valley M.e. for their quick handling of my wife after her crash at Simi's Hare & Hound. She was in Ridgecrest's Community Hospital in less than a half hour and in good hands. Terry is still unconscious and resting now at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Please, everybody wear a helmet when yo u ride. She did not! After reading your editorial in the April 27 issue on "Life or Death for the Two-Stroke: Is the Jury Still Out?," it was obvious that you were not aware of a new two-stroke oil substitute called "Cycle 2:' The new concentrate developed by General Foods has some pretty exotic chemicals in it, i.e. magnesium oxide, dia\phatocopheryl acetate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, etc. This combination of ingredients (along with some rather mundane compounds, such as meat by-products and oat flour) added to high octane gasoline produces a two-stroke fuel mixture that is not only smokeless, but any residues can be eaten by dogs, cats, coyotes, blunt nose lizards, etc. Although the can implies the product is only for 1-7 year old dogs (Yamaha DT-I's, Kawasaki Bighorn Enduros, erc.), I have had excellent results using it in my new 125 Monoshock. I've experimented with mix ratios and found that three tablespoons of Cycle 2 along with five gallons of gas works great. I hope that this replay will quell some of your "Doomsday" fears! DAROLD B. CUMMINGS . Inglewood, Calif. WAYNE R. LANGNER Desert Viper M. e. Flanders' fan I wish to make a few comments on the Hangtown Race which was recently held at Plymouth, California. 1. Track condition excellent. 2_ Organization of race - excellent. 3. Announcing of race by Bruce Flanders - excellent. Bruce is one of the best in the business; speaks clearly, distinctively and with much knowledge of racing. If it wasn't for Bruce, most of us wouldn't have known what was going on as the spectators' view of the track ' was the worst I have attended. The longest view of the riders was about three seconds every three minutes - not too much for your money as far as wat ching the race. GLENN.OGDEN Escondido , Calif. Paid in full Congratulations are due the Los Ancianos Motorcycle Club and all those people involved in helping them throw a well-run enduro early this month in Baja. Larry Geese and I rode our BSA 500cc singles and finished quite a ways back, but we are looking forward to riding it again next year. JIM HUNTER La Habra, Calif.
