Moto one Bill was jammed into about fifth. Before the first lap was completed he was sitting in second and on the next lap he was leading . He went on to win mota o ne easily. The next two were almost ·like moto one, except as the t rack got rough Bill seemed to go that much faster, making it a cle an sweep for his first ti me . Later Bill said that whe n he broke his leg several years ago: his parents told him that he would have to give up racing. Bill di d stop racing, and sold ail his . racing gear and motorcycle. Now that he has turned 18 years old he felt his long await ed wish shou ld begin. To race. In the Ope n Expert, David Czerwinski and Chuck Czerwinski were both on new AW 400 Maicos, It was the first time in a lo ng ti me that both brothers were in the same race. Moto o ne started out with Chuck in ' the lead and David in third. All that was & !,ing through David's mind was that he wanted to beat Rick Long who was in second. Lap two Rick got by Chuck and alm o st as fast, David went by both. Mota one ended with David first, Rick in se cond and Chuck in third, but before lap one had ended it was David in first, Rick second and Chuck third. Rick said later with a better handling bike he could have got by. • Fremont opens; Hocking still hot By W.H. Living only about a mile away may • lead some to be lieve that Rick Hockin g owns the deed to Fre mont as did Jim Rice to San J ose , and proof was added . when r igh t-on Rick wo n his 250 heat . and got a dead last start in the Main . Randy Mamo la led off and had a six bike lead at the end of the first lap, while Rick and his new Ossa were trying to wo rk through the pack. • On lap three Rick motored to third and chased Kevin French and then bit him off, leaving only the fast fleeing "Morno " Mamola, On lap six. with the crowd in ab solu te hysterics. Hocking _ threw the Ossa into tum three and rode right around the Roberts-styled protege. Rick went on to win in a big way with Rusty Davis surprising Mamola on the last comer with a nice low pass. In the 360 Expert, it was just cut and dried for Hocking on the motor that took a tJYrd at Houston and won two in doors in the Northwest.
